Anyone have it yet?  And if so, which system?

Yes I have been away for waaaaay too long and yes I am going to be a more consistent presence in your life again. Why? goodness know, Probably some profound reason I realised after watching an episode on a profound tv-show (can you catch plagiarism from that, I know not)

Whatever the crazy reason, know I am back and happy to be there. Go Tv.com, and watch out for the hippo. You know not what she had for dinner tonight

Anway, I may be back but I am still retireing from my editorships and guides, few of them I already handed over before I left and a few more I have yet to retire from.

So I will be on this site during the mornings / early afternoons before work.

Wed, 17 Mar 2010 14:08:42 -0700 Adam_B writes: My Coming Out http://www.gamespot.com/users/Adam_B/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25805742 It's your old pal Adam_B again. You may remember from such films as "Adam walks around the GameSpot office at midnight and breathes heavily" and "A bunch of people run over Adam trying to get to the Nintendo booth at E3."

Well, I've been doing a lot of lurking since then, and sometimes feel a bit like an outcast. For too long I've had to hide this part of me away from the world and live a lie. But today I've decided to finally admit who I really am for the world to hear. My name is Adam, and an I'm an iPhone gamer.

I didn't even ever really mean to play games on the iPhone. Heck, for the longest time, I was skeptical of the device which has its share of setbacks. But even so, when I was approached by a couple guys who used to work with me at GameSpot to build a new site about iPhone gaming, I agreed. I wasn't so interested in the subject matter as I was in building a cool site, hanging out with some cool guys, and giving myself something to do.

And so, back in September of 2008, Slide To Play was launched. And even then I resited the lure of the iPhone, despite seeing some compelling evidence that there might be something to this device when it comes to gaming. Relying on the old ill-founded assumption that a device can't be good at gaming if it does other stuff too, I resisted. But as the site started to grow and we started to get users and developers kept pushing the bar higher for game quality, I finally gave into a moment of weakness. And you know what? I was impressed.

And apparently, I wasn't the only one. Game developers started to flock to the platform with the potential to make a splash without needing a development budget of millions of dollars and the backing of a publisher to distribute their game. In this rush, there was a lot of good stuff, and a lot of pretty mediocre or terrible stuff. An unemployed software engineer spent seven weeks in his living room coding up the rather bland game iShoot, but despite the fact that it wasn't so good, it made the developer nearly a million dollars.

A game like that got popular mostly because of the rather limited ways of browsing the App Store. If a game happens to do initially well enough to make it to the top selling list, it will tend to stay there a long time because of its exposure. This means that people are often not exposed to the diverse number of great games to satisfy any gaming palate.

That's a large reason why we built Slide To Play, but honestly, the kind of people who would browse a site for iPhone games are typically enthusiasts anyway; they're typically people who already know what kind of great games are out there, and so when they go to the App Store to buy a game, they don't bother browsing, but instead just type in the name of the exact game they want. That works for them, but what about everyone else? Thinking about this a bit led to a plan for a new way for people to find games for their iPhones. This paved the way for a rather ambitious project that I'm now very proud of: GameFinder.

GameFinder is an iPhone app that incorporates much of the content and data from Slide To Play, but its focus is different. It's there to help you discover games in the App Store. Want to find the best FPSes, zombie games or great games that just became free? There's an app for that, and it's called GameFinder. (Okay, very very sorry for that really corny marketing line, but you get the idea.) How much would you pay for such an app? Nothing, you say? Good, then we've priced this app right, cause it's free!

In the famous words of LeVar Burton, "But don't take my word for it! Look at these beautiful screenshots. Photon torpedos ready, Captain." (Well, close enough.)

Some dude on the App Store wrote: "The app manages to throw TONS of useful information into a tight, easy-to-use package."

Some other dude writes: "I absolutely love this app."

And a different guy raved: "Ugh"

Okay, you can't please everyone. But like I said, it's free, so give it a try!

All of what I picked up came from the use of my GameStop gift card which I received for Christmas.

The first one on the list is the Korg DS-10 Synthesizer.

This one has always interested me. I'm a musician, and to make music on the go with my DS, just seems like the ultimate bundle of fun. It hasn't disappointed me so far. The amount of versatility this little program has to offer is definitely a surprise. To those people who are interested in music or have a lot of creativity, I'd highly recommend this program. The user interface is friendly, but to those who don't have an extensive knowledge on what certain terms in producing music mean, the manual will provide you with a fair amount of lessons. I'd say the easiest way to get into this, is to just mess around and figure it out for yourself.

The second game I got was actually from the DSi Store. Dark Void Zero.

Love it. I'm a huge sucker for any sort of 8-Bit throwback games. And we've been seeing a fair amount coming out recently. When I first saw this announced for the DSi Store, I knew I was going to get it, so it was only a matter of time. I am certainly not disappointed. The music, the retro graphics, the menu screen, the difficulty... Everything is exactly the way it should be for any retro game. If you have a DSi, you MUST pick this one up. You do not have any choice in the matter. For 500 Points ($5), this is just something that you can't skip on.

The last one here is Brothers in Arms DS.

It has mixed reviews, but I was just looking for a new shooter for my DS and happened to see this one for a cheap price in GameStop. I didn't have much left on my gift card at that point, so I decided to use the remaining balance on this one. I've played a few Brothers in Arms games before and enjoyed them, so I'm interested in seeing how well this translates onto the DS, but I can't say I've played it yet. Dark Void Zero has too much of my attention for now. lol

That'd be all for my latest update. I hope everyone else has enjoyed their holiday. It's now time for me to get back to college, as I'm sure it is for most of you as well. In that regard I wish you all the best of luck. I'll see you later.

I just randomly went back through every blog I ever created on this account. It really brought back memories, great, forgotten memories. It was interesting watching my horrible spelling habits progress into what they are now. It was enjoyable experiencing the Kim Possible era from my lost perspective. It was amusing watching my odd enthusiasm of a younger age. But it was also saddening, very saddening. My blog posts serve as a mere ghost of the past, a past that has been long abandoned by all but the fewest of us. This website has progressed so far, too far for most of us to keep a grasp on our illustrious past on this once-great website. We had so many antics, ones that seem downright foolish from a detached perspective. While the days of yesteryear will likely be forgotten by the vast majority of my old friends on here, the greatness that we had in those few years will forever be carried with me on my life's journey. Quite a remarkable realization, and all thanks to a sleepless mind on a cold, rainy night.

    Merry Christmas to all.

Back after another lengthy hiatus. Prepare for many bandwith wasting pictures today.
Have survived Year 11 so far.
    I've just done fou
r exams (this week, not today) and I've got one more to go on Monday, Geometry+Trigonometry.
    Maths ftw.

Anyway, after Monday I get the rest of the week off before three more weeks of school, and then it's winter holidays! woo.

    Averaging in my subjects:
Literature - 75, I think. Exam score is surely going to bring that down.
Chem - Just under 70. Ditto for the exam.
Physics - 72.6. Topic test last term stuffed up my 90 or so average. -_- Hopefully I've done well in the exam.
Introductory Calculus - 83. xD I'll probably get about around a 65 for the exam.
Geometry + Trigonometry - Also stuffed up
my 86 average with one bloody test.
Career + Enterprise - Definite A. Teacher was very impressed with my use of the word existentialist. xD

    My birthday on the 30th!
Also happy end of the financial year. (Happy E
OFYS! Anyone else watching Aussie TV will get that, unfortunately)

Supanova on the 3-5th of July - pop-culture convention.
Was looking forward to this since last year, beca
use of the awesomness of the event which was unlike any other I had attended.
This is the list of people that I wanted to meet, in order of personal importance.
    Morena Baccarin
    Matthew Lewis
    Karl Urban
    Dirk Benedict
    Ray Park
    Jake Lloyd

Three of them have cancelled; Morena, Matthew and Ray. -_-
    Here are the other guests.
Now I dunno if it's worth going or not: $25 to get in for one day, $30 a signature from the guests, plus money for merchandise, food and whatnot.
    Barf.

Speaking of Karl Urban, STAR TREK ROCKS.
And I got this awesome lenticular collector's cup from the cinemas.
    That is all.

    Watching
    Castle s.1 - NATHAN FILLION!!!!!!1
    Supernatural s.2
    IT Crowd
Doctor Who - watched my first ep yesterday. =D
Battlestar Galactica s.4 - haven't been able to watch the last 4 or 5 eps yet because of exam but am gonna finish it next week.
    Scrubs s.8
    Grey's Anatomy s.5
    Masterchef Australia
    Desperate Housewives

Anyway, off to go do my maths notes for G+T (will scan for all you maths lovers xD) and watch some SN.

    Later, hoez.

Prize if you know what all the icons in my blog mean.

So, for those of you not watching it, the main threat is someone has a device that can hack the government firewall. Whoopy Do! All that means is that they can route packets of data past the firewall and into the private network behind. It does NOT mean they can log on to any of the systems behind it, they would need valid userids and passwords (no mention of those having been acquired) and even if they did, it is work of minutes to suspend the compromised userIDs, which in the days of Sarbaines Oxley auditing requirements they'd be able to spot from the audit.

But to me the real kicker is, it will take them hours to rewrite the firewall, yep probably true, but it takes one second to unplug the network cable that connnects the private network to the outside world. All critical systems will be designed to be able to run on their own network without any external data feeds for a while, and the sort of systems they are talking about are classic cases. Air Traffic control would have it's own private resilient network for critical data since it is too vital to rely on internet. The external connection will only be for things like feeds to civilian services (such as real time flight info on the web), all critical communication would be via a private network.

So for that sake of my sanity just pull the plugs and go after the terrorists without this unrealistic threat!!!

I have to say the latest 24 is rather typical of "Hollywood IT". They like to drop in mysterious terms like Ports, Packets and Servers, and even Mainframe (and then show you a Unix box). But then when they show you displays they have BIG FLASHING GRAPHICS for unauthorised access and user interface things that have NEVER existed in the real world. Do they think the whole world is full of IT morons. IT on TV today is a bit like driving a car in a movie in the 50s, you know perpetual swinging of the wheel from left to right. Anyone that's ever been in a car knows that's not right, so why the hell did directors, who presumably have driven, put it in movies - the same goes for IT - just stop it!!!
