After 5 long years, I've finally graduated from University. Today I got my final grades and did well, and now convocation is set for June.

My program was a mix of Business and Information Systems and I hold a Bachelors of Commerce degree. The only problem now is finding work, which is proving a lot harder than I was hoping it'd be. Guess I just have to keep applying; but that loan needs to be paid back ASAP.

Ah well, cheers to being done and finally having some spare time to play games again, read books for leisure, watch movies and work out.

Just bought myself a Nintendo 3DS XL Mario Kart 7 bundle. I haven't opened the box yet, but this is my first Nintendo handheld since the gameboy advance. Not having played the DS, I figured the DS library would provide a ton of extra games I could play on my machine in addition to 3DS games that I will be buying:

Super Mario 3d Land

New Super Mario Bros 2

Resident Evil Revelations

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

I'm sure there will be others too of course, and the 3DS being able to play original DS games that I've missed out on is a huge plus. I am certainly looking forward to testing the machine out.

Oh, it's incredibly cold out there. 30 below with Windchill. Very thankful for public transportation.

First thing off, this game is eye blowing amazing. The graphics in Halo 4 make Halo 3 and Reach look like they were made last generation. There is so much detail in everything that is hard to believe the game runs as smooth as it does. Probably the first thing that popped out for me was the Grunts' skin, brown scales broken up in spots. I didn't notice that in the other games, which is a testament to how much effort 343 Industries put into the graphics.

The campaign was the best out of the series bar none. You actually get to do something that doesn't involve destroying a Halo, very refreshing. After three games of doing the exact same thing, the story was getting stale. Fortunately the story is brand new, involving the Forerunners and reveals a unknown part of Humanity's past that came out of nowhere. Stopping a rogue Forerunner from subjugating Humanity brings a freshness and a real sense of danger that the story was lacking in the other games.

What I liked the most about campaign was that we finally get to meet Master Chief the character. What always bugged me about Halo was that Master Chief wasn't in the spotlight, that his only function is to kill X amount of enemies. Bungie downplayed the notion that Master Chief is a person under all that armor to the point where you seriously think you're playing as a robot. That doesn't happen in Halo 4 as Master Chief is front and center of the story and you get to more more about him than you do in the past three games combined. It's odd at first when you hear his voice because he hardly ever says anything besides "Yes Sir" and "I'll do it", but after a few levels you get used to it and it shows a side of him you don't see that often: emotion. I hope 343 continues evolving Master Chief in Halo 5 because they have done a spectacular job so far. Kinda sad that it took four games to understand the main character of your franchise.

Haven't played much of multiplayer, but I've been playing Spartan Ops, the new mode that expands Halo 4's story. Overall I think it's noble attempt at trying episodic content, but it doesn't quite make the landing. First of all, the story isn't there at all, found only in the cinematic intro for each episode; even then it is so brief that it doesn't make any impact. Basically you're playing the same level over and over again; from what I've played the formula of push some buttons, kill three waves of enemies, repeat hasn't changed between episodes. Spartan Ops would have benefited more as being a set of DLC than an actual mode, then it would get the attention it deserves.

Overall, Halo 4 is the best out of the bunch despite the facepalm that is Spartan Ops.

  • Gameplay: 8.0
  • Storyline: 8.0
  • Sound: 7.5
  • Graphics: 8.5
  • Music: 7.5
  • Overall: 7.5

  • I loved the first Fear title. I found the storyline to be rich and intriguing with some really good gameplay mechanics. The second Fear title I found to be a quick throw together, the kind of title thats likely developed in the east in some non-English speaking country just to turn a quick profit, honestly...it was terrible.

This title however, redeems itself pretty well. I can say with certainty this is the first game I've played in quite a while that had absolutely no glitches in it whatsoever. Not with collision, graphics anomalies, sound, models, nothing. It played quite well. The controls and game mechanics are what you'd expect to find in a Fear title, pretty much the same as the original. You still have control of the time dilation to allow for Max Payne like takedowns.

As you progress through the levels, youll find yourself quickly exploring every single nook and cranny in the hopes you will find more ammo, a psychically charge corpse (which can be used to rank yourself up by absorbing the psychic energy) or an Alma doll (which also adds to your psychic energy rank up). The more psychic energy you absorb from the hidden dolls and specific corpses, the more you will rank (or level) up and gain more time dilation ability.

    F-2012-11-26-21-54-13-73.jpg

The run feature has a nice added bonus being that you can run then melee which will cause a sliding kick making it easy to then continually melee your victims to death. A common theme in this game is "Where is the ammo?", so you'll more than likely find yourself taking quick pot shots using your ranged weapons, then running up and meleeing to save ammo. The graphics have been amped up quite a bit the keep up with the modern hardware.

    F-2012-11-26-23-31-06-04.jpg

The sound and visuals were all pretty good. The storyline was also surprisingly good. This time around, your psychic brother is with you in spirit. At first glance this type of scenario comes off as a bit much, but in time you learn to really like having your brother appear from time to time, he even lends a hand to save you in some of the cutscenes, well done guys. The gameplay itself although linear in nature is pretty decent.

    F-2012-11-26-19-12-51-94.jpg

The game is a bit short in my opinion, I was able to walk through it in just a few hours on normal. However, for those of you out there that like to play multiplayer, you may enjoy some of the varied modes this game offers. I would suggest this game if youre a fan of the franchise but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. If you have a few extra bucks and some spare time, grab it off a discount site.
