"If you don't like it, DON'T BUY IT!  That's all you got to do!"
"This is MS we're talking about.  They aren't going to listen to you!"
"Do you think your blog is going to change anything?"

All these are paraphrased, but these are the types of comments that I, and other bloggers who've voiced their oppositions against MS and their policies, received.  Eat. Your. FVCKING. Words.

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update

Don Mattrick himself bowing down before the consumer, admitting that their policies were wrong. Mattrick and everyone else at MS were confident that they were doing what was right for them. THEM.  Not US.  So, us as in we, told THEM, "No, that's not going to work."  Granted, some of us did it... more passionately than others, but at the end of the day, they listened.

You know, we shouldn't really applaud MS for doing a 180 on their policy stances, but we ended up applauding Sony for simply not doing anything.  The question remains: do we applaud you for wisening up?  Or, do we applaud you for being scared shytless that your machine wasn't going to sell in the state it was in?  Regardless of why you caved, you did cave, and now those major deal breakers are gone: the DRM and the 24 hour connection check.  You've restored my faith in your company, so now you get to earn my business again. I can now buy an Xbox One with a clear conscience, and I'll preorder one when GameStop allows preordering again.

Now, I can enjoy a system that has:

  • Dead Rising 3
  • Crimson Dragon
  • Quantum Shift
  • Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare
  • Kinect that actually doesn't require me to move my furniture around
  • TV! (ok not, really)

Now I can enjoy a system that lets:

  • Gamers across the world play without worry of region-locking
  • Gamers in the military play while on break
  • Me retain the rights that I desparately hold dear
  • Me play a fvcking single player game OFFLINE!

I want to quickly touch on Kinect, because I never really blogged about it before.  My MS rants were focused on the policies.  So, what do I think of Kinect?  I still think it's unneeded.  I bought an original Kinect for the 360, but it's still boxed up after I found out there's not furniture arrangement in my tiny room that lets me enjoy the device. Hearing that the Kinect 2.0 works around furniture now makes it more appealing to me.  I don't like the idea that it has to be always connected to the Xbox One to work, and I wish they made a cheaper SKU without it, but since I'm getting it bundled, I might as well try to warm up to the thing.  I'm also not keen on the whole NSA thing, but I don't plan on gaming in the buff or do anything illegal in front of the camera.

I cannot believe that I'm so happy that a company came out and said they're going to do something now that they should have done in the first place.  Some may chalk it up to Sony for simplying not going MS's old route, but why do you think Sony did nothing? They listened.  True, the Internet may be a "vocal minority", but when you get passionate people in that minority to speak loudy enough, it's like listening to the majority. This feels extremely liberating to know that we fought against Microsoft and their policies.

We won, and what's best about this for them is the war's over before the boycott could ever truly begin.  Their sales will suffer less now, and we no longer have to exclude the Xbox One when considering a next gen purchase. Everyone's happiest when they're given choices.  That's how the free market works.  To put restrictions on freedom is never a good thing. It hurts you, the company, and it hurts us, because we love your products.  We as consumers should never have to say "I want it, but I hate everything that comes with it." Console releases should be a joyous occasion, not a series of scandalous events.  Thank you, Microsoft, for coming to you senses.

Bonus content: Never forget. Courtesy @kbaily.  Had it not been for her, I'd have missed it completely.

Where the Wii installment of the franchise lacked in new features, New Leaf is absolutely bursting with them. Hence, New Leaf becomes the first considerable update Animal Crossing has received since 2005's Wild World, and though the wait was long, it was more than worth it, as fans of the series can now own the definitive version of Nintendo's life simulator and carry it around with them in their pockets, which is just perfect for the clock-based gameplay the game charmingly features.

9086478705_0bc3c909d4_o.jpg

The key features introduced are simple to describe: a tropical island where it's always summer, and the ability to be the town's mayor. However, not only do they go fantastically well with Animal Crossing's relaxing demeanor, but they also provide a whole lot of extra value for a series that is already known for having games that last very long. The ability to be a mayor heavily increases the possibilities for customizing one's town; where before there was the ability to plant tress, flowers and lay down patterns on the ground, now it is possible to have a certain degree of power in choosing the town's layout, and accept villager's suggestions for public works and make them materialize through heavy investment. While there are some annoying limitations to the public works system, such as not being able to place them too close to rivers or rocks; the powers of a mayor turn the town into your own personal canvas, where a lot of creativity can be used to make it a very visually pleasing place to live.

The island is somehow complementary to the construction options. Now, more than ever, money is extremely necessary in Animal Crossing, because aside from a bigger-than-ever mansion that can be expanded multiple times, players will also have to put their money down for the constructions around town to actually happen. Thankfully, the island is packed to the brim with valuable beetles and sharks that be sold for a great price in order to make the game's money-hungry economy spin. In addition to the valuable bugs and fish that can be caught, the island also features a horde of simple but addictive mini-games that vary from fishing challenges to memory match games that can be played either solo or online with random players from around the world in order to collect medals that be used in the island's shop.

9088696914_77070973f9_o.jpg

In spite of the fact that the island can be somehow taken advantage of in order to make loads of money really fast, Animal Crossing: New Leaf is - more than ever - a day-to-day experience, and the game reinforces that by featuring a never-seen-before amount of unlockable shops, public works, and features; and making projects that have been fully funded only appear on the following day. While some might be naturally annoyed by the restrictions of having to wait a certain amount of days until important aspects of the game show up, it is all part of the series' charm, and that is precisely Animal Crossing's core strength: being a self-sustaining game, a software that renovates itself upon the arrival of each morning, making players feel as if they are about to play a completely new software on every passing day.

For those who are drawn to the concept of waking up everyday only to check which trees have matured, which flowers have produced hybrids, how great-looking the town is after the construction of your latest project; or maybe simply to hear what new silly things the neighbors will come up with, and anticipate the moment where they will finally find that one rare bug that keeps eluding them, then New Leaf is an absolute must-buy, because never has Animal Crossing been so great.

I just think some people jump to early on the bandwagon.

It's okay saying it's the best game on the PS3 because it is one of them but for me it's about my 3rd favorite game on PS3 behind Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 2 but people need to give games like this time and maybe after maybe a month or so to where the game is in comparison to some of the best ever.

Games like Super Mario World,Resident Evil 4,LOZ Ocarina of Time,Metroid Prime all still highly playable and still fun now they are always in top 50 or 20 games lists.

My favorite game from this gen is though Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii because it did something completely new and different but still giving the fans the high quality platforming that people asked for. I will be honest for me since 2009 Uncharted 2 has barely been touched as my favorite PS3 game but I think I would need to give The Last of Us maybe a bit more time before calling it the best game ever.

The Last Of Us Best Game Ever: Not even close for me

Best PS3 Game: Not quiet.

College can be such a pain in the buttocks. It won't let me register for my most important class this semester. Fun, as always, even though there are seats available in the class.

Car I was closer than ever to getting a car. Then the Last of Us came out. And my phat 80 gig PS3 YLOD'd. And I needed TLOU guide. And a few other things came up, so, that a was a few hundred dollars dent into my car fund.

PS3 I was absolutely devastated that my phat PS3 died. I'm still trying to get out the disk, but to no avail.

Moderating I'm coming up on two years of being a general moderator. Almost one year of being a master moderator. I've slowed down a lot, and my presence fades in and out depending on my work schedule and workload of college. I'm on summer break right now though, so I could help out a lot more.

Job is going great. I enjoy it almost every day, and I am getting paid for it. I wish I had a few more hours, but I'm fine with what I am getting right now.

Games I'm getting though:

Sleeping Dogs this one is one of the next on my backlog.

Red Dead Redemption also on my backlog

Mirror's Edge eek! Backlog again.

The Last of Us seriously, if you have a PS3 and aren't playing this, What's wrong with you? It's AMAZING.

Sony Computer Entertainment is currently fixing the problem. Users are advised not to update their PS3s until further notice.

So earlier a firmware update for the PS3, according to their twitter account, "PS3 system software update 4.45 coming soon, Trophy notification options and improved system stability are on the way." However, it seems as though this update had some strings attached to it. According to a number of reports, many users have been locked out of their systems, claiming that they were unable to boot up after the update.

ps3.jpg?resize=500%2C349

Other reports claim that it bricks immediately after the update, but apparently it only happens to those that upgraded their hdd. And that this issue only effects those who have upgraded their hard drive.

Sony has released the following statement:

"We are aware of reports that the recent PlayStation 3 system software update (version 4.45) has caused the XMB to not display on a small number of PS3 systems. We have temporarily taken 4.45 offline and are investigating the cause of the problem. We will announce when the system update is available for download as soon as possible. We apologies for the inconvenience."

It's currently unclear or at least not immediately obvious how Sony will roll out a fix for those who can't access the XMB. One option according to this site suggests that the fix will include a downloadable file to put on a USB stick or hard drive, then asking users to boot into safe mode.

ONE: Xbox One hit fans with DRM and online checks at  E3 2013. The crazy fallout from this mess has been entertaining. Including all the wonderful gifs it has generated. MS did very little to squash the problems they caused at their launch even. Their best feature, 10 person family share, is barely talked about. The Xbone boss said that people should just use the 360 if they have no internet. For me the Xbox One doesnt have anything big to make me want to rush out and get it.

TWO: Two new FPS IPs from big shooter developers. Firstly you have Bungie with their social co-op shooter Destiny. Then you have Respawn, ex call of duty guys, with their mecha shooter Titanfall. Titanfall looks to be the more interesting of the two for me, partly because of the competitive nature. Huge Titans moving about as nimble soldiers parkour over the relatively constrained arenas. Destiny presentation seemed to be pushing the social aspect more, joining up with buddies to take down mobs and boss mobs, sharing the spoils of war borderlands style. Even The Division looked like it pushed the social deal more.

THREE: Witcher 3 has already won a few awards and if they were for graphics then its easy to see why. Its one of the best looking games of the show based on screenshots and the video released. It sounds ambitious too, being many times larger than Witcher 2 and open world.  I sure hope they can pull it off with a mature story-driven experience. They need to work on the combat and balance from Witcher 2 and leave the rest.

FOUR: Battlefield 4 is adding a ton of community requested features onto the core of BF3. Spectator, Commander, bigger squads, reduced suppression etc. As with any new DICE BF game there is a twist in the class gadgetry and some new elements. Huge destruction events change the maps (levolution), like the building collapsing to cover the level in thick ash for the remainder of the match. The presentation of this game made it my  best of the show, although no real surprise since Im a big fan of the series.

FIVE: Watch Dogs is just five months away from release and recent gameplay vids have been impressive as usual. Admittedly I have kept myself in media blackout for Watch Dogs (as I do for most games) because I want to see it all for myself when I play. It certainly has a very ambitious design and it appears to be reaching potential. Integrating games with tablets seems to be the next big thing for gaming and Watch Dogs does this by allowing you to call a tablet user in to help you flee from the cops.

So there you have it, E3 offered a lot of videos, screenshots and gaming news. For that reason, it made it a pretty interesting week and introduced a few games that have piqued my interest.

Other Gaming Stuff...

437678_108156_thumb.jpg

I started playing Team Fortress 2 fairly regularly, which I havent played in years. Initially I played some games to get the Steam cards (gotta catch em all), but kept playing because of the entertainment. Im only playing Mann Vs Machine, which is co-op / tower defence mode. There is something very addicting about taking down scores of robots and beating the waves. However, after a few dozen hours, I might be losing interest in the mode.

On a side note: I managed to sell most of the TF2 items I have accrued from special game editions on Steam Market (e.g. Hitman, Quantum Conundrum, Sleeping Dogs). I have made about $35 from that which is quite nice bonus and there are a few more items to sell.  I would advise people get in and sell stuff, prices seem to be on a general decline.

360 XBLA games:

682516_278218_thumb.jpg 710754_313515_thumb.jpg

Got access to a few keys for FC3: Blood Dragon and CoJ: Gunslinger on Xbox 360. Both have been quite impressive shooters that kept me entertained. Blood Dragon is a great themed reskin of FC3, taking about 10hrs to finish and explore everything. Gunslinger is an arcade entry into the CoJ franchise. Gunslinger has some great combat in between the awful boss battles. I will likely get both games on PC when there is a good deal. Probably during the awesomely inevitable Steam summer sales.

Review of FC3: Blood Dragon

Review of CoJ: Gunslinger

GRID 2

679612_274391_thumb.jpg

Loved the original GRID game, but GRID 2 just did not hit the high mark set by its predecessor. Its actually rather bland and full of minor problems that add up. Played most of the game on Hard, ramped down the difficulty near the end because I was losing time trials by fractions of a second and races got long and tedious. Normal mode is easy, but it also seems to have way more rubber banding than Hard. Drivers are very fast for the first 4 corners of a race and then stupidly slow to let you pass. It just felt like I was playing a role in a predetermined script.

Drift races are horrible; in fact most vehicles drift anyway. My enjoyment level was inversely proportional to my vehicles sliding ability. Some of the Hong Khong tracks are mediocre, the visuals really did not impress me (the Sun is horribly overdone).  The game is still entertaining from an arcade driving perspective. TheAbu Dhabitracks have a decent flow. Overtake is a fun mode and time trials are a nice relaxing way to play without needing to put up with bad AI drivers.

30. A Christmas Carol

29. Kung Fu Panda 2

28. Tarzan

27. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

26. A Bug's Life

25. Hercules

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSwZwRmxdcE1Ing8se6IKx

1997

Directors: Ron Clements & John Musker

Starring: Tate Donovan, Danny DeVito, & James Woods

Studio: Walt Disney

Rotten Tomatoes: 83%

Awards: Oscar & Golden Globe for Best Song

So many memories of watching this movie back in my early days of childhood. Even after all those years, I still enjoy watching it for the timeless comedy and given my fascination with Greek mythology, I like seeing the historic gods and mortals in a more light-hearted tone. I'm not one for Disney animated musicals (all the singing usually feels out of place), but Hercules is one of the exceptions because it just fits naturally for whatever reason. As to what sets this movie apart, I would point to Danny DeVito's and James Woods' energetic voice performances.

Fun Fact: James Woods ad-libbed most of his lines as Hades. Before Woods' name was brought up for the role, Jack Nicholson and Willem Dafoe were in the running.

24. Fantasia/Fantasia 2000

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSRwdJ_vPXGJu2o2qM4zUy

1940/2000

Directors: Various

Starring: The music of The Philadelphia Orchestra/Chicago Symphony

Studio: Walt Disney

Rotten Tomatoes: 98%/82%

Awards: A combined two honorary Oscars and a Grammy for their soundtracks.

I know I'm cheating in two ways with this spot. I've combined two movies and neither of them are exactly movies, but a collection of animated shorts. But given how both Fantasia titles revolutionized animation and how to incorporate music with film, I just had to find a spot for both on the list. The original Fantasia was very innovative and creative while still boasting some of the best musical scores to appear in theatres. As for Fantasia 2000, it lived up to its hype and stands on its own two feet.

Fun Fact: Fantasia 2000, released on December 31, 1999 at midnight, was the very first movie of a new millennium.

23. Aladdin

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQlX-bMgF-mx_Jf35S2FF5

1992

Directors: Ron Clements & John Musker

Starring: Scott Weinger, Robin Williams, & Jonathan Freeman

Studio: Walt Disney

Rotten Tomatoes: 92%

Awards: 2 Academy Award wins with 3 more nominations and 3 Golden Globe wins with a Best Picture nomination.

One of the other musicals that I enjoy is Aladdin (which was from the same team that made Hercules five years later). I mean, who doesn't love Robin Williams' "Friend Like Me"?!? It's no mystery that Robin Williams is the highlight of this movie, which he voiced at the lowest wage possible due to it being part of his 'Hook' contract. Williams was also the very first famous actor to take his talents to voice overs in a major way. Other than Williams, I think that Jafar is one of the best Disney villains, if not the best. I also think that its message is very clear and well incorporated. Overall, you can tell that this movie was made in the prime of Walt Disney animation.

Fun Fact: There's a fan theory that the merchant in the beginning of the movie is actually the Genie after he is freed by Aladdin.

22. Ice Age

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQaPAOV7-iYX5pnScTiv7f

2002

Directors: Chris Wedge & Carlos Saldanha

Starring: Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, & Denis Leary

Studio: Blue Sky Studios

Rotten Tomatoes: 77%

Awards: Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature

Ice Age (the original, NOT the awful sequels) is comic gold and tells quite the adventure of an unlikely group. It's one of the funniest animated movies out there alongside the likes of Monsters, Inc. and Shrek. If the main story isn't funny enough for you, the clever Scat shorts are just perfect. Great voiceovers from a brilliant cast, outside-the-box writing, a cool concept, and the dynamic between the trio of characters all combine to make Ice Age a special animated movie.

Fun Fact: Ice Age was originally planned to be a hand-drawn drama. But after the bomb that was Titan A.E., Fox wanted the movie to appeal to children.

21. The Iron Giant

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTMJHZwGbD54L8WkNXakHh

1999

Director: Brad Bird

Starring: Vin Diesel, Jennifer Aniston, & Harry Connick, Jr.

Studio: Warner Bros. Animation

Rotten Tomatoes: 97%

Before he made Ratatouille and The Incredibles under the Pixar banner, Brad Bird was responsible for the most overlooked animated movie of all-time. The Iron Giant mixes comedy, emotion, and action with a backdrop of amazing animation. It also packs a strong, maybe controversial message behind it. Despite being a great movie, The Iron Giant flopped at the box office due to the lack of promotion from Warner Bros.

Fun Fact: Sean Connery and Darth Vader himself, James Earl Jones were both considered for The Iron Giant voice role before the then-unknown Vin Diesel was cast.

--------------------------------------------

That's all for now, I plan to post Part III sometime during the weekend, so look out for that if you are interested in this blog series. I also plan to post a blog with some mini-reviews of Man of Steel, Fast Six, Mass Effect, and more very soon. I'm currently playing The Last of Us at a slow rate (I want it to last). What else... How about that 'The Wolf of Wall Street' trailer!?! Looks great! Between that and The Great Gatsby, this could finally be Leo's year to win an Academy Award after being robbed so many times before. Thanks for reading and please comment

Well Joel, you can say you won't laugh but I can't say the same thing lol. Anyway, after I reloaded the last savegame the glitch disappeared, so it wasn't a big deal

I've been keeping an eye for this game ever since it was announced for Ps3 and I think that was four years ago. I read that this game was inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and that the story is about a couple who are also star crossed lovers. Another thing I love about the game beside the post apocalyptic setting and the story, is the new action based combat which is similar to the one in Kingdom Heart games. So to those of you who are fans of Kingdom Hearts series, rejoice. (as if you havent already) The combat in this game is action based by all means; Not only youre able to carry out a fight without waiting for turns as in other Final Fantasy games, you get to control characters who use different styles and weapons. Theres hack and slash, shooting as well as platforming. The 2013 E3 trailer shows scenes where prince Noctis' home is being invaded by enemy soldiers. It's time to escape for home is no longer a safe place to be for Noctis and his friends. Though this time, you wont flee the castle by simply fighting a number of battles, you'll be avoiding getting damage by the place as it gets destroyed and even stay out of the enemys sight if you want to. The trailer has scenes where the player stops for a moment to show that the whole game is running on real time. Watching some of the foes in Final Fantasy games make a comeback as the Iron Giant was great but watching the scenes where Noctis reminisce about him and his father was better. I can tell the relationships in this game aren't as shallow and theres great use of narrative (telling stories through gameplay) whether it's by Noctis being helped by his friends during battles or by Noctis and his love interest fighting together.

Bayonetta 2

The original Bayonetta was simply the best game I've played in the current generation. It's the only game I've played and beaten three times so far. The gameplay was highly addictive and quick based. The theme was stunning. The soundtrack, backgrounds, characters and everything about the game were a perfect ten. The only thing I didn't like about Bayonetta was the chase levels but that didnt ruin it for me because I could simply skip these levels in my second time through. Bayonetta was an easy game to get into. There weren't any lengthy tutorials and excessive exposition. Every boss battle was epic and unique. The entire game was unique because a female character with a strong sense of sarcasm is also rare.

I won't say I expect the second one to surpass the first because it's on the WII U and I hope we don't see any downgrades considering the system's limitations, and because it's hard to keep the success or hype going. I hope I'm wrong though and I'm still going to get it. We need badass women in games as Bayonetta and she deserves to have her own series and even if the graphics won't look as good as in the original (Which is the case)  I don't care. It still has a badass and funny heroine, epic battles and soundtrack.

X by Monolith

I admit I never liked Xenoblade or Xenogears and Im not a huge fan of mecha anime and games but this one looks actually cool. The trailer shows the main character as he roams in this big vast world with huge enemies. Theres so much going on in this big open world. Enemies flying above, enemies crawling on the ground. I felt the whole segment of the game was to demonstrate WiiUs capabilities.

Project Spark

This title is mostly known for being Xbox Ones Little Big Planet but for me it's nothing like Little Big Planet or Minecraft simply because of the graphics. They're not cutesy and they're not cube like so for those who want a game where they can create their own levels and characters without them always ending up like a stack or row of cubes, this is your game. I'll call these games the engine games because we get to create our own mini games in them, add textures, music files, create our own characters and share them with our friends. Who knows we might be able to sell them one day and release our creation as stand alone games. I can't wait to see the future of user created-content games. Here are more things developers could add to the genre: Allow us to make multiple characters, assign roles for the characters, role-play, be part of other users games. I know I sound like I'm asking too much but this genre of games is excellent. It's developers releasing engines and allowing you to create your own games minus other video game components.

Honorable Mentions:

Below

Below is the name of a creative title developed by an indie studio and published by Microsoft. Although the trailer doesn't tell much about the game or gameplay, I like the focus on art. For those of you who would like to see videogames with a focus on visuals and narrative rather than traditional ways of storytelling, you might want to check out this title.

Transistor

Is a title announced during Sonys E3 conference. The game uses 2D artwork but has 3D gameplay mechanics. You control a badass fiery-head young girl as she fights bad guys for reasons which remain unknown. I felt the song played during the trailer was too loud. It made it hard for me to listen to what was going on in the game. This title also focuses on visuals and presentation. If you're a fan of anime like me, and want more female characters in lead, then this might be the game for you.

WTF moment:

Plants Versus Zombies Garden Warfare

I'm a huge fan of Plants Versus Zombies. I've beaten the first one and I'm currently playing PvZ adventures on Facebook and you guys should check this out because it's cute and very challenging (limited number of plants to take with you in battles and you need to plant more every time you run out of them and you have very few planting beds) and I can't wait for PvZ 2 but this one looks like a joke. It's as if someone read my comments about how every game is being turned into a Resident Evil 4 and decided to make it. The plants dont look cute. The whole thing looks like a nightmare. I know it has zombies but to turn what used to be about strategy and planning into a mindless shooter is ew.

While all of that is pretty terrible and stupid (that's putting it lightly), I'll be honest. I already decided prior to the Xbox One reveal that I was skipping the new Xbox.

Why?

Microsoft as a company, over the last 10 years, has been pretty crap. The Xbox 360 is designed poorly and the User Interface was terrible from the get go with the blade design. Once the New Xbox Experience hit it was much improved, until the next major update a year later. Downhill from there. Now, it looks like the Metro UI which isn't half decent, but still has stupid issues.

If I have a gold membership, why do I see ads? You're getting my money anyway, it's a way to pay you for your services - you don't need to advertise to me that I can order Pizza Hut with Kinect. On top of that the Xbox 360 has terrible build quality (as is the case with almost anything hardware related Microsoft does). Loud. Hot. Issues with connectivity.

I've been Windows free for about 3 years now, using Ubuntu as my main OS of choice. Windows 7 is a great OS, but Windows is too restrictive for my liking. Windows 8 on the other hand, might be better with performance than 7, but Metro on a desktop is riddled with stupid limitations and Microsoft's attempt at converging tablet and desktop interfaces with Metro really is a poor attempt.

Don't even get me started on Windows Phone and Microsoft's laughable attempt to compete with iOS and Android.

Microsoft is a confused company. Steve Ballmer is a terrible CEO. They need some restructuring, because right now they're falling into irrelevancy. The Xbox One is a big issue to console gaming, but the bigger picture here is how the Xbox One is just another example of how behind Microsoft is. The whole idea of the Xbox One being a TV hub is over and done with. No one wants that anymore, because more and more of the younger generation aren't getting cable anymore. Furthermore, Microsoft likely saw Google attempting this with Google TV. Google TV failed massively. Instead of learning from what Google TV did wrong and trying to make the Xbox One's TV features relevant, Microsoft's doing what Google did.

It's hard to imagine that Microsoft - once tech giant overlord - is falling into irrelevancy. Apple and Google are both better and more forward thinking than Microsoft will ever hope to be under Steve Ballmer. Fire him as a CEO, restructure the company, become forward thinking once again. They're running out of time and space.
