  • Despite it being Spring, and nearly Summer, it is still pretty cold here.£ Of course a lot of that is because of those fabulous Spring showers.£ I don't recall getting sinus problems every couple of weeks like this before, but this continual switching between warm days and cool days has been reeking havoc on me.£ I've been leaning more toward the desire for warm days lately, even though when we had some warm days the past week, I was sweaty and needed a fan on.£ I'm really just sick of the cold weather.£ This house is always cold.£ Consider this point a prayer - "Warm weather, I beg of ye!"
  • I can't remember exactly where I made it to on Red Dead Redemption the last time I played, last week.£ But I know I went with the Sherrif and had a shoot-out on the one farm and near the railroad tracks, and went with the elixir guy on a few different outings.£ I helped a rancher save his kidnapped daughter from some thugs as well, and got this awesome new pistol.£ I stopped a cannibal from killing again, and rescued a guy with a wagon full of treasure.£ My duster jacket has been looking pretty cool.£ Still haven't touched the multiplayer, but I wonder what that's like.£ Oh, and I discovered Dead Eye for the first time the other day - don't think I knew about that before.
  • Been really into Ni No Kuni lately, after I abandoned it for a while to work on RDR, and then finally came back to it.£ I've caught at least one of each of the familiars so far, and I made it to Castaway Cove.£ I guess I've gotta backtrack to Al Mamoon already - that was quick - and in the meantime I have a few more quests to complete.£ I must have put in around 19 hours so far on this save, give or take.£ I couldn't figure out any genie recipies on my own yet, so I'll have to mess with that some more the next time I play.£ Last night I stayed up from about 11 PM until 4 AM working on the game, just trying to catch one of each critter, and Monolith escaped me until earlier this morning.£ I guess every once in a while, a guy just needs to break from his daily routine and stay up late, or wake up early.

There's a lot of stuff coming up over the next few weeks and months:

  • May 26th, which is only 2 days away, is the official launch of Arrested Development season 4 on Netflix.£ This is something I'm looking forward to, and I'm hoping it turns out okay.£ I originally watched the series on Hulu back in late 2008 or 2009 - the exact year has become lost on me now.£ It's rare that a series gets to make such a big return to form like this, so it's just cool to me that the Bluth family will be back just as they were when we left them.
  • June 4th is the release of the Breaking Bad season 5-1 DVD.£ I still don't know if I am going to buy it yet, but I was considering it because it might be the only way for me to catch up on the series before it returns in August.£ Lately, my thinking is that I will just wait for it to come to Netflix, and ignore all news about BB.£ I'd save a few bucks, and given my track record with other DVDs I own, I don't know how many times I'd watch the series after I'd seen it once.£ Arrested Development is coming out so close to then anyways, I will probably be too busy for it right now.£ But idk.£ I might still get it.£ It really would be nice to catch up on BB.
  • June 11th-13th is E3 2013.£ While I haven't put a huge amount of importance on the show in recent years, I think this year it could be different since Sony and Microsoft are going to have to pull out all of the stops to wow people with their new consoles.£ But more importantly, I just want to wait and hear about all of the games that trickle out of the event - not just the ones with stage showings, but those overlooked announcements.£ Phantasy Star Online 2 news?£ Piccotto Knights?£ Whatever, just listening for results!
  • June 16th, which is about 3 weeks away, is Father's Day.£ I guess it's a good time to start looking for a funny greeting card to send to my father.£ I got my mom flowers for Mother's Day, so now the big question is, what do I get for my dad?
  • At some unknown date later this year, possibly in the Fall, Avatar: The Legend of Korra is expected to return to TV for Book 2.£ Since my girlfriend has gotten my mind back on the series after watching through much of it on Netflix again (until it was removed along with other Viacom-owned shows on May 22nd) I am pretty excited about it.£ ...Yes, even though I wasn't totally into Korra like I was the Airbender series.£ I still admit that it wasn't a bad show, but I don't think it lived up to what preceeded it.

And of course there is a lot of other stuff going on during the Summer.£ My birthday, the State Fair, surely a trip back home for a weekend or two will be planned - maybe my parents will even make time to visit here again?£ Who can say?

But these are just some of the things on my mind right now.

Wanna discuss any of the events on this list, or mention some events that you're looking forward to in coming weeks and months?£ Feel free to do so in the comments.£ I'd like to hear what ya'll have to say!

In my first video I play the beta for Papers Please, an upcoming indie game that puts players in the shoes of an immigration inspector. It's surprisingly fun and I can't wait to try the full game out.

By the way, something I learned while recording this first video: talking into a mic with no one on the other end is weird! Just something to get used to I guess, heh.

When Nintendo unveiled the Wii U, it came as little surprise it would continue the departure from traditional console gaming considering the steps taken with motion technology and a family friendly presentation that led to the original Wii's success. With the unveiling of the Xbox One and Microsoft's own apparent departure from a gaming focused system, it seems the console market is now undergoing a kind of de-evolution. It would be fair to say Microsoft and Nintendo believe themselves to represent the pinnacle of innovation and originality if their advertising campaigns and grandiose press conferences are any evidence. But does the Xbox One actually represent a step backwards as far as gamers are concerned?

Although Sony's original Playstation brought gaming into widespread public recognition by appealing to clubbing culture with trance like visuals and pumping soundtracks, it was the Xbox that pioneered online console gaming. With the introduction of Xbox Live spearheaded by the phenomenally successful Halo, Microsoft quickly and aggressively seized early control of the online market something both Sony and Nintendo have yet to match. The genius of Microsoft's approach was not simply to create a way for gamers to play online but to turn that interaction into an entire community. With the ability to compare statistics, achievements while forming and nurturing online friendships, the widespread popularity started by Sony ended up consolidated back into a culture especially for gamers - rather than club socialites seeking a way to impress their real life friends by showing interest in what they believed to be 'the next big thing'. Essentially, Microsoft gave gaming back to the gamers.

With this in mind, it came as something of a disappointment to learn that the Xbox One would apparently be undoing some of this by catering to a more general community beyond those who play games. The console was revealed to include a Blu-Ray player, Skype support and an evolved online marketplace for movies and music, not to mention integrated Kinect a feature that has never been truly accepted by gamers as a practical method of playing games. So the name Xbox One is something of a misnomer - 'One' meaning all forms of entertainment delivered by a sole system while simultaneously splintering off from a culture of gamers that had been so expertly set up with the previous two consoles. All of this combined with the lack of backwards compatibility and we have system that appears hell bent on erasing the established gaming history of so many who had finally found a devoted community to call home.

The decision to cater for a wider demographic could very well prove fatal for Microsoft considering it already faces competition from the Wii U and is set to face the Playstation 4 on release. It can be assumed the Playstation 3 was the least popular of the current generation systems. A rocky beginning and a severe loss of credibility for Sony after the Playstation Network was hacked in mid 2011 resulting in the compromise of millions of credit card numbers means its been a difficult road for Sony of late. However, it now has a chance at redemption and reclamation of its status as the most popular console developer as proven by the Playstation 2's record of the highest selling console of all time. If you consider the departures from traditional gaming being made by Nintendo and the now risky fracturing of gamer culture by Microsoft, it leaves Sony in an interesting position to take advantage of the Playstation 4 now being the only console to still offer a traditional and dedicated gaming experience.

You love it so much that you just thinking about it makes you ecstatic. You play the game in your head, mumble cutscenes while spacing out in class, and review strategies for when you play. You finally get home, fire up the game, and then you notice it. Nothing is as it should be. The game plays differently than you remember, and the game isnt as good as before.

When I played the Halo 4 campaign I had that feeling. Halo 4 has changed drastically from the Halo I grew up with. The campaign is eerily reminiscent of Call of Duty. The first in game breaks in which Master Chief pushes a button seem out of place. In a way its glorifying a lackluster action that can be overlooked. The sole purpose of the first person actions is to make it more cinematic and Call of Duty-like.

The Call of Duty theme comes up time and time again. Halo 4 sports the same interactive gameplay elements that Call of Duty made popular. Remember climbing the glacier in Modern Warfare 2? Youll see those elements here. While its not bad, it just doesnt feel like Halo. I feel like Im playing a Call of Duty spinoff. This feeling is worsened by a change in the Needler inflicts damage. Every time a needle hits you, there is virtually no damage inflicted. The damage is only inflicted after the needles explode. While this seems trivial, it drastically impacts gameplay. I dont always realize when Im getting shot with a Needler and die seemingly randomly.

The story behind Halo 4 would have had me in tears had my roommate not been breaking my immersion every three seconds. I think it might very well be the most emotional game Ive ever played, at least the most emotional Halo game. Cortana has gone rampant, and the interaction between Master Chief and Cortana is incredibly well done. My only gripe is that it was too short. I miss Halo 2s long campaign. I completed Halo 4 in only about six hours. There was so much missed potential between Chief and Cortana due to the campaigns brevity. I would have loved to see their interactions play out for a longer period of time before the credits role.£

The story also ties in perfectly to the Forward Unto Dawn short films. The new characters have unique personalities, although Master Chief doesnt have long lasting relationships akin to his relationship with the Arbiter or Johnson. The new faces fade as soon as they come. One of the most interesting characters is a female O.D.S.T. although she only appears in two or three scenes. Shes the perfect candidate for a series long partner. The story however is a solemn tale of the struggles between two close friends, so I can understand why they didnt introduce that many new characters. The narrative focuses beautifully on Cortana and Chief.

While it feels a lot more like Call of Duty than Halo, Halo 4 is still not to be missed for its narrative alone.

When Microsoft revealed the 21st of May as their showcase for the future of the entertainment medium I was excited by the prospect. Having been disappointed by Sony's offerings of sequels and pseudo Frankenstein controllers, I was hoping MS would offer something more...much more. Well we all saw the console which is more than what Sony did, however upon feasting it's rather bland 1980's vhs player styled design should they have showed it at all? A small part of me thought it was deliberate in an attempt to make the console look similar to those of old, those from my generation. Maybe they wanted to grab the attention of the Space Invaders elite?

£

If that was the intention then they failed as the new Xbox One (it's now official name) looked more akin to a set top box than a console with the same features enjoyed by that said medium. As I sit here a cool breeze gusting through the balcony doors and a refreshing Orange juice greets my lips I wonder if this is the future of gaming? The Xbox One reveal seemed nothing more than MS wanting to get into a territory already frequented by other companies who quite frankly have much more experience with the subject matter. Has MS decided to put the other entertainment mediums first and games second? Such a prospect is so bizzarre and non coherent I dread to think it.

£

Then there is the rather more alarming concern of used game fee's and one user per console mentality. Do MS honestly expect a married couple to both buy the same version of the same game so both can enjoy it on the same console? In another world it would be comedy gold the kind of content that Laurel and Hardy would use to captivate audiences worldwide. The worrying feeling however is that this situation is no joke and it's a nightmare that we will never awake from. No matter how one looks at it the reveal raised more questions than eyebrows and alerted the gaming world to some very serious questions.

TV integration? £THAT'S A PROBLEM!

Instead of getting excited for the upcoming Xbox, I see a console that is no longer a box. £The box cannot exist without about 300,000 other boxes called servers spread throughout the world. £MS has put so much of an emphasis on the Cloud that they've spent hundreds of millions improving their networks. £The next XBox isn't what you buy at the store; it's what you pay per month. £Quite frankly, you cannot enjoy the Xbox One without an always online credit card connection. £At least that's the impression I got.£

Oh, and of course, there's the reports about the always online crap and the used games fees again.

http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-does-require-internet-connection-cant-play-o-509164109

http://www.gamespot.com//news/xbox-one-has-preowned-fee-report-6408671?fb_ref=rec_features

(According to Xbox Support's Twitter, the GS article is false£https://twitter.com/XboxSupport3/status/336937800702238722)

Obviously, MS wouldn't be spending any of their unveiling time denying or confirming these reports. £We probably won't receive official confirmation until E3, but damned if what I've heard isn't damning. £

As for the next Kinect, I don't want it. £I made the big mistake buying one back in 2010, which is still sitting in its box. £The problem is, I simply don't have the room for it. £I won't have the room for Kinect 2.0. £Same goes with Illumiroom. £Why push something so hard that can't be enjoyed by everyone? £Push more games. £All you need for games is a TV and a controller. £Don't keep pushing Smartglass. Don't keep pushing Kinect. £Push games. £PUSH GAMES!

This is embarrassing. This is MS at its most embarrassing, and I'm talking more embarrassing than Kinectimals. £More embarrassing than Usher Raymond. £It's so embarrassing, it makes me embarrassed just to know that I own an Xbox 360. It is appauling to see a company who practically bullied their way into the industry full of people who felt they had no business being there and shut them up by bringing freaking gamesm into shifting so much into social and media integration and focusing on games as an afterthought (turning Rare into a shovelware Kinect developer is reprehensible). £Yeah, Sony's doing more social things too, but they're actually doing it alongside games.

All this XBL and Cloud fluff. £All this Kinect. £All this SmartGlass. £These futuristic integrations because we're too lazy to look for a freaking remote. £It's so god damned unnecessary, and MS will have one helluva time convincing me that I need to buy their machine. £It doesn't matter at this point now. £I'm so done with MS that I don't care how many new exclusives they release, it's not worth putting up with all the MS BS that comes with it. £Oh, and what the hell is with the name? £Xbox One? £The first Xbox was the Xbox One. £Is MS so inept that they forgot how to count?

Yeah, you can bash the Wii U all you want, but it's more of a gaming console than the Xbox One will ever be. £Don't agree?

But then again maybe I'm wrong considering so far I only checked a couple of unions, however its not just unions, other forums such as OT have also seen better days. Right now I think its best for me to at least try ditching one union in particular, if leaving this site entirely is too much. Personally though it feels as though me leaving this site would make me and others here couldn't care less. But maybe I'm overreacting. Still, if this really is the case, this makes a rather unsettling feeling.

I really am not sure what's going on here, but I'm hoping things can back on track here soon. No guarantees however, especially considering E3 is coming up again... and we all know what happened to this site last year after E3 ended... Anyway, I'm still gonna think about this for the time being, and I'll make my final decision once I get my regular laptop back and its fully repaired, which sadly might take another week or so. But who knows, I might decide to start just using my desktop soon before I get my laptop back.

Sadly right now it feels as though this year has been yet another year that sure hasn't exactly been the greatest one for me, that's for sure. For some reason I've been having a lot of sleeping problems lately, more so than ever before. And this likely is one of the leading causes to why I might have been having a bi-polar disorder for the past couple of months or so. It would seem that I've just been having too much anxiety lately and being stressed out over things, ugh, something is ruining me. It feels as though I desperately need some motivation on getting out more. And getting a social life. Right now I got nothing man. I need some new interesting stuff going on in my life, as lately it feels like its been kinda boring.

Well before I wrap up this lengthy blog, the main reason why I want to leave a specific union in particular is, well, I keep getting annoyed where it feels like I shouldn't be, not gonna mention names. Feels like this is all that I'm limited to say, don't want to get in trouble for talking about a user, or users. However I think I would be able to tolerate posting at that union, considering that sometimes I feel fine and not irritable, but then all of a sudden the irritability comes back without warning, which makes a rather frustrating situation here. So, Not sure what to do about that. I'd like to finally post there in peace for once, without my crankiness coming back. *shrugs.* I'm trying to think of methods that might work, maybe I should frequently squeeze a stress ball while posting?

They bombed it badly with this console in my opinion. They could have shown off that the console was not a constant online, used games hating, with no forced Kinect and core gamer embracing console. It failed in all of these aspects.£

Now before i bash the console it has some upsides. It has 8 ram DDR 3. It also has a slick new controller.

The controller is something i was worried about, but it looks really slick and great.£

The processor also has the ability to switch between games, movies, tv and music. This is something that is really good feature for those that want to use it.£

Forza 5 was the real shining star of this show. With great graphics, It has really good lighting and just looks awesome. This will be a system seller. This is the only reason i am actually considering getting an Xbox One

Now to the really bad part. The used games fee is just flat out stupid and is an insult to gamers, it is actually worse than the Online Pass fee. Making everyone even force to be online to register the game is also as insulting to anyone. Requiring to be online at least once a day or to be online to register a new game. Also Kinect being forced to be used with the Xbox One and not even working without it is also flat out insulting.£

The conference itself was sorely lacking in anything appealing for core gamers. Only appealing with movies, tv and music apps. There was nothing that really appealed to anyone that have been a part of the core crowd.£

There is also no backward compablity despite the fact that the possibility is there for it. I get it with the Cell Processor and PS4. But why shouldn't it be possible to do it with Xbox One`?

I will not get this console, and i will go with Wii U and PS4

Anyway, I thought I post it here to so for safe-keep.

Hello,

Now that I have a sick-day from work I finally had the time to write down some of the problems I see with Gamespot. Please take my advice and answer some of my thoughts.

I feel that Gamespot lacks synergy across the site. We have:

Unfocused content.

  • Too many different shows. First of all there are tons of shows that Gamespot provides but no easy-to-read schedule on what date they runs. Second of all, if you visit the Shows tab it's simply starts to play a Show then randomly displays a bunch of shows on the page like "Gamecenter" and "Now Playing" that I know nothing about. What type of shows are they?
  • Mobile game page. If you visit the Mobile game page you will find Android and iOS, no Windows Phone. If you also press on the weekly iOS Game Update it will take you to a 404 page because I assume the show Appetite for Distraction was cancelled? The recently released phones on the Mobile page are also Iphone 3. This part seems simply forgotten and not updated and is thefore onfocused and not necessary.
  • The start page. Gamespots start page displays at a glance a few big news which is good. But what follows after that are a few sections that I don't think is necessary to display.
    • Random screenshots. There is no need for those.
    • 15 of the latest news. Having that many big news on the startpage makes it looks cluttered and force you to scroll down a long table of content.
    • User blogs. These have no place in the startpage and should be moved to a separate section.
  • Forums page. If you visit the forum there is no way to know what's the most talked about topic at the moment without digging into each section.
    • The forum page also provides links to featured unions rather than relevant unions.
    • At the end of the forums start page there is also a link to trending games which doesn't have any relevance to the forums.

Not user friendly design.

  • No support for touch devices. If you are using a tablet and you press to view your Inbox the display shown when hoovering your username disappears.
  • Gamespot start page. The Gamespot start page should display more information regarding your user and relevant content for the user.
    • New information on games that your are following.
    • People you follow and their latest blog entries.
    • Latest posts on the forum that you have written in.
  • Console start pages. When you go into a console page it displays 5 seemingly random posts. What are those? Reviews? News? Something of importance? And what follows after is the same as the start page with random screenshots and "awesome user blogs". It should display content of reviews, previews and news.

So there you have it. These are on-top-of-my-head stuff that I think you need to deal with for starters.

I forgive you for being part of the horse shit that was LA Noire because I want to be able to do that.

I know that I've been not so active on GS and I apologize. It's just that college is college and my time management skills are nothing but a bad joke. That and I had a lot on my plate. I devoured all the books in the Hunger Games Trilogy. The first two books were great but the third one was disappointing. I also managed to get my total games completed count to 296, saw a lot of great movies (the ones in my native language - malayalam) and also read Brain "Head" Welch's autobiography in one sitting.

With the next gen consoles nearing the horizon, I'm most excited for the PlayStation 4. Better exclusives, better hardware, better features - I'm something of a Kaz Hirai believer now. I'm also grinning stupidly because Metal Gear Rising : Revengeance is coming to PC (YAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOO!!) and if the leak about Castlevania : Lords of Shadow on Steam are true, then color me insane because of joy! MWAHAAHAHHA!!

I don't like having unrealistic expectations but one can hope that a certain Crystal Dynamics reboots a certain Legacy of Kain series...because that would be badass.

Am I concluding the blog with a cat pic? Yes, I am. Problem?

...

DON'T JUDGE ME!!!!!
