A game that will give you some of the old and some of the new.

Rondo of Swords is a decent Startegy RPG. It is by no means revolutionary but it gives you a good time. There are several aspects of Rondo that are worth mentioning. The main ones I am going to talk about are the battle system, the plot, and the graphics.

The battle system is the best and I supposed worst part if you do not use it properly. As in many games such as Fire Emblem you can move your tanks to the front of the line and create a wall to hide your ranged attackers and magic users behind. However in Rondo, you move so many spaces per character and you go through the enemies to attack. The best thing here is that you can attack as many as you can get through in one turn. The bad part comes when your enemies return that favor. Spacing is an important element on the battlefield as well as finishing off as many enemies as you an to reduce the damage you take. The only bad part of the battle system is that some enemies only move if you are close enough to trigger them, which reduces the challange and can cause characters to get overleveled. This can cause some players to over rely on certain characters.

The plot is your standard kingdom is taken over and you have to rally people to your cause and take it back. The major twist is that the real Serdic is killed in the beginning and a fake "Prince Serdic" leads his sister and rag tag army to the promised land.

The graphics are good for the Nintendo DS. They are nothing that would win any awrads but they don't hurt the cause either.
