Overlooked. Completely Underrated
This game is woefully underapreciated and deserves better GameSpot.
Really. Nobody has made a good 3rd person sci-fi stealth action game of this calibre to date. Yet everyone jumps around for two years over the hype of overrated games like GTA and Ratchet! Your rating system is more like high school. A Popularity contest.
I sincerely believe that the main review is obviously written by someone who either did not enjoy the genre, or took no time with the game. These reviews are also obviously edited for the companies and systems, but why kill a game before it had a chance. I too am sorry that the game is SHORT and I rarely overlook this aspect especially in value. In this case I'm going to give them a break. The programming is pretty intense. Levels intricate. A lot of the character rigging seems like the advanced programming salvaged from the boring but teched out game Killswitch, so I'm guessing the mechanics are the evolution, they are almost 100% similar. Are they not? Blindfire? Renderware?
Throw in a GREAT comic theme, couple the mechanics and I've got fun close to the first Metal Gear on the PS2 (Sons of Liberty?). For the first time in a long time, other than Hitman (THE BEST), I find myself having fun creating silly challenges like trying to get through a level without being seen (not sniping obviously) or just hiding from the Nords while you taunt them. The hologram and sentry gun are excellent, and the pistol is a blast to use. You can play the game any way you want. Run and gun. Snipe. Or just Creep around like a superhero in the dark. While your at it check out the environments!!!! Pretty cool.
Yes yes! and as I am finishing the last two levels. I am in despair at the fact that it is over. Realistically God of War is just as short back to back. I almost didn't buy this based on your lame ratings. I'm glad I got it. In fact I traded in God of War for it and would gladly do so again. And I do like Kratos!
Dump the multiplayer and focus on a couple more campaign levels. I'd drop a 10 instead of a solid 8.
