Play with a real guitar?

The answer is no, you cannot use any regular guitar with the game. The "real" guitar designed for use with Rock Band 3 has been specially modified to include sensors in the neck that tells the game where your fingers are placed. Without this the game would receive no signal.

There are two guitars a real one that works with rock band and a plastic one that only works with the game so yes the real guitar works with the game
