“RoboCop” was a fun game for its time on the NES. Set in Detroit in the future, it pitted police officer Alex J. Murphy as RoboCop against street thugs and dogs (yep, Detroit in the future will apparently be infested with hordes of fierce canines), in his quest to rid the city of crime. It was interesting that the bullets fired at RoboCop by the street thugs did less damage to his body armor than the bites from the multitudes of dogs.

RoboCop was a Detroit police officer who became a cyborg law enforcement powerhouse. The game essentially followed the plotline of the film, through level after level RoboCop sought to bring to justice the criminals of Clarence Boddicker’s gang; each level boss was one of Boddicker’s cronies from the film. RoboCop was also called upon to face the ferocious ED-209, as well as the corrupt businessmen of the megacorporation, Omni Consumer Products (OCP).

While RoboCop dispensed justice with his fists, he would often call upon the hand cannon he kept in a holster in his leg with which he would unleash his fury on the criminal element of Detroit.

Aside from the limited graphics of the NES, “RoboCop” was a fun game when it was released.
