Beaver Defense is a solid Tower defense game that even though has a few flaws, does not get the praise it deserves.

Beaver Defense is a Tower Defense Real time strategy game for Wii-Ware. Beaver defense has, at the bare bones of it, a really well structured and smooth tower defense game. It has just enough elements for an advanced player, but still can be enjoyed by RTS noobs.

In the game, robots that were reprogrammed by a genetically altered beaver to destroy all humans on the face of the planet. I know, the story is a little weird, and shallow, but if you can get by this, you have a great game.

During a match, robots try to destroy your headquarters on each level. At your disposal is a robot called the hero, which you can move around the map, as well as use special abilities. As you progress, you can upgrade his stats as well as unlock new heroes with new abilities. The other main source of defense is a selection of Turrets, EMPs, Lasers, and Rocket launcher stationary guns that you must upgrade through the progression of each level, with the ultimate goal of having your headquarters survive. Also running around within each level are little robots that fix your damaged stationary weapons as well as your headquarters.

Ultimately, I really do not have that much to complain about with regards to the basic structure of the game. I would like to be able to control the repair bot and send him to the stationary weapons that are the most damaged. It can be slightly frustrating when they fix one that is almost full health instead of going to the one that is on fire, but you can always rebuild them when they break, as monetary funds in this game are not over abundant, but balanced nicely.

Visually, the colors are very bright, and well polished within the level. The cut scenes in between, however, you will wish for more polish, but it does not effect game play whatsoever. The audio is good. Some songs have a Banjo-Kazooie type of feel, but after playing a few hours of this game, you may feel the need to play your own music over the game.

Beaver defense may have its flaws, but the developers put their time in where it really mattered: The Tower defense structure, balance and game play. It is definitely worth a shot. Check out some videos of game play and you will see that this game has a lot of potential.
