Although unpolished and pretty iffy Road Rash brings about a great type of gameplay that never made it big.

User Rating: 7.8 | Road Rash II GEN
The days of the Genesis are held near and dear to many people. Despite what any other console developer may do we will always have our Genesis close at hand. Its is these hardcore that will always remember Road Rash. An underrated classic that never got the level of polish it deserved and was tossed aside for more similar vehicles and racing styles. Nonetheless come with me down memory lane as we re-unite with a classic EA title.

The sound is probably the worst aspect of the title. The music, even by the Genesis standards, is pretty poor. The sounds consist of yelling, and punches. It ranges from mediocore to horrid.

Graphic wise this title is very interesting. The graphics make incredible use of the processor but almost to a fault. The game is really too fast for its own good. The speed isn't the probelm but remember we're playing with pixels. So all you see is jaggies up until the last seconds (which is really too late). Soon though you'll learn what colors to avaoid but it never replaces the feeling of knowing what you're gonna hit (and trust me you'll hit lots of stuff).

Now for gameplay. The gameplay is straight forward. You try to get into first place while punching other racers, who in turn punch you, and well...it pretty much goes like that until (A) someone gets knocked out, (B) someone crashes, or finally (C) someone gets ahead. There will also be clubs and chains that enemy racers will hold. If you punch at the right time you can snatch their weapons and use them for the remainder of the race or until someone else takes them. The tracks are lacking in variety and range from too long to too short. The motorcylces tell a different story. Always varied and constantly changing from one to another the several classes really change the way you play. Thats really it.

The fun comes from the simplicity of racing and the thrills of that simplicity. This game is a simple pick up and play game. I recommend it for anyone who truly holds the buried gems of gaming close to their hearts. Road Rash is a wonderful series that died too early and could be a force to be reckoned with in the current or next gen. Perhaps EA would pick up on this but nothing beats the originals.
