Rivercity Ransom...My #1 in beat 'em up action!

User Rating: 9.1 | Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari NES
One day you go to school and find a note saying that your girlfriend has been captured...what do you do? I don't know, beat some people up for stealing my girlfriend. Let the fists fly and the action commence.

Some might think that this would just be another rip-off of Double Dragon and that this is not fun. WRONG, Rivercity Ransom has amused me in so many ways and I give thanks to the developers at Technos (not Tecmo) who have also made great games such as Technos Samuria: Downtown Special or Technos Dodgeball. This game is great for fanactics of furious fighting, the NES graphics, and something relatively easy to play; which is just as great with two players (Yes, and cheap hits your friendly player)

You start the game at your school's gates and are already onto action with one of the city's weakest gangs, who drop low amounts of coinage which is great for cheap meals - which also boosts stats. On your way though district malls or shopping centers you'll see all sorts of goodies for purchase (I choose the squid) at various stores, which is also a point that you are entering a more difficult gang but more money. Fighting is the key in this game, without it you cannot advance and get money, which are the general points of experience.

You can also use skills in this game, but at a price...honestly, you have to buy them. Stone Hands is a fast pummel of fists and Dragon Feet is the same, a fury of kicks. Many other skills will become available as you advance to other malls and some places are hidden as well, just be sure to pay a visit to Benny and Clyde. Beat them - make quite a bit of money, Lose - Lose half your dough. Make it all the way to where your girlfriend is and save her so you can finish some shopping by the end of the day, just be sure to try the squid.
