Great 2-player Co-op fun.

River City Ransom is my girlfriend's favorite 2-player NES game so when we learned that it was available on the Wii, we forked out the $5.00 necessary for the download. River City requires some coordination and cooperation for two players (punching your friend actually hurts!), and provides plenty of nostalgic fun.

The beauty is that the Wii does not require you to transcribe the 1,302,392-character passcode (I exaggerate) every time you want to stop playing the game. Simply exit to the Wii menu and you can resume from where you left off the next time around.

River City is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up game that has some basic RPG elements thrown in. You collect money from the goons you beat up and, as you progress through the game, you are given the opportunity to buy food, books, shoes, CD's (no iTunes downloads just yet), and other goodies to "power-up" your character.
