A cool cast of characters unite in a mediocre storyline yet the awesome combat and stealth make it fun and kind of good.

User Rating: 8 | Rise of the Kasai PS2
In Rise of the Kasai you play as a spirit guide who is sent through time by the oracle. Your job is to find out what went wrong and why the legendary warrior you guide fell in battle. You go through various time periods and experience many previous sights and battles you once have to see what went wrong in the past to find out what happened. You learn much more about the story than you knew in the previous game Mark of Kri. I would suggest that you play through Mark of Kri before playing through Rise of the Kasai if you have any interest in the storyline at all.

The big selling point in this game is the combat and stealth. It is a lot of fun to sneak around and staple guards to walls with your sword or hack apart an army of soldier cleaving them limb from limb with your axe. You use the R1 button to extend a beam of light you use to target your enemies once targeted they have symbols over their heads for which you attack your selected enemies with. Also you use combinations such as X O O O and X O O X to use combos on your enemies. You target enemies in stealth the same way then while unamred you get in range and hit X to stealth kill the enemy.

A very cool main character in the storyline Rau and a decent cast of secondary characters add to the somewhat mediocre storyline but hardly make it a good story. The graphics aren't exactly realistic it has a cartoon-ish feel to it that is hard to describe the characters don't have defined muscle it is a more smoother bulkier build you would see in like Disney animation. Either way the important thing is that it fits very well as Rau throws around and breaks people like they were rag dolls or as Tati pounces on people with her agility.

The music in the game is good although it seemed that when you were in combat the battle music was almost always the same. Otherwise the music kept a good feel while moving through stage to stage. There are many different challengers and things to collect as progressing through the missions that unlock many neat things. Some of the things you unlock are arenas allowing you to fight mass groups of enemies to further earn more things and also cheats and alternate costumes for your characters.

Although it might not be the more amazing game it is a very cheap buy and it is a lot of fun just running around doing missions enjoying the combat and stealth. Anyone looking for a fun game to tear some people up in then I would suggest Rise of the Kasai although you should probably play through Mark of Kri first because it was a better overall game and it would somewhat ruin what story the game has. I would rate Rise of the Kasai a 7.6 out of 10 for a unique fun gameplay that will keep you entertained for quite some time although it lacked a good storyline it had cool characters but it does costs next to nothing to buy.

This review will show up as a 8 due to Gamespot unfortunately not allowing a 7.6 to be selected.
