Rise of Nightmares has Carolyn hacking and slashing her way through this Kinect review.
I feel like if this game were just released for the 360 with regular controls, it would have received similar positive reception as the condemned games.
Kinect is a major fail, they should just a stop with this BS. This game had potential, but it fails because of controls.
I think rise of nightmares deserves much more. The walking mechanics are very simple. Put a foot foreward to go foreward and a foot backwards to go back. Rise of nightmares is an amazing game.
Ok, so again. I've continued playing for another few days and again, to reiterate, the walking mechanics SUCK! I'm now stuck in a spot where very careful walking and turning and proper speed is crucial...been stuck in this spot for some time now and am now ready to return this game based on the horrific walking mechanics. It's unfortunate because the rest of the game is fun and amusing. A spot where there are different speed giant blades moving across the floor back and forth and I need to navigate precisely.....on this game?! Are you serious?!?!? Good bye "Rise of Nightmares", I'll return you and put my $50 towards a good game that's fun. Maybe one day I'll pick it up again in the bargain bin, but it's not worth the aggrevation for the price. Dammit, I feel like I'm sludging through mud. You'de figure a survival horror game would give you the ability to...I don't know....FRIGGIN RUN!!!!!! There IS an "auto-walk" feature in most spots, you feel like you're on a rail at an amusement park, but it's not available during the moments where you need to decide where to go or step.
think of it this way it the first of its kind and we can use the mistakes to bulid a better game
As a hardcore gamer I hate to say it, but these kind of games don't work with the kinect, better off sticking with dance central and other party games and leave action, adventure, shooting etc. up to the mouse/ controller.
finally a game that looks interesting. Kwl review a shame about the naff controls mentioned but deffo would like to play this on kinect =]
Game looks good, the reviewer only mentioned 2 bad things about this game, yet he gives it a 5.5 LOL
Wow, this game is a lot more bloody then I thought it would be. It's too bad that some games, and a lot of Kinect hacks, have good motion tracking, a couple are great, and then a mature rated title comes out with poor tracking. It seems that part of the problem is what motion is used to do what action in the game. I have seen Kinect track small movements well, so it seems that SEGA dropped the ball; poor tracking and less than steller graphics won't fly in 2011.
you know its very annoying when the movie just jumps to the next one at the end while you're typing a reply ? but so, right ... another game with dodgy controls? win for finally releasing something that appeals to people over the age of 9. Fail for controls? AGAIN? only thing kinect seems to be good at is tracking wild jumping and swinging movements, every game on xbla is utter crap (for the 'serious' gamer at least, i mean, fruit ninja wtf ?) from what i read not worth the full dose of spending cash, might get this from the bargain bin just to have a game thats not based on cutesy and family. Probably won't until i get a demo. I was wondering how the gfx work out in full hd on a 50inch plasma screen? anyone? they don't even look all that detailed on the video here I'm afraid kinect might die an early death since devs wont keep putting effort in it if no one buys their games, which is to be expected if the games always turn out to be more marketing than playable ... next ?
Ok, so...Rise of Nightmares. Bought the game because I was waiting for a survival horror on the kinect. Been playing it for 2 days now, a few hours here and there. I applaud Sega for an attempt at a mature title, like many others have stated, and I truly hope more developers continue on this path. I would also hope that they read and hear what we have to say. Good overall game, fun, creepy, maybe a bit too easy. Controls are very clunky, I feel like I'm controlling an old Resident Evil game...I loved them, but the controls sucked until part 4. The turning radius is screwy, takes too long then overshoots, no side-dashing, can't look up or down. The worst issue is the walking mechanics...terrible! You put your feet out to walk. There's no way of staying in one place when you do this so you inevitably get closer to the system, then have to back up so you back up in the game. It would have been much more natural and smarter to control walking by raising knees slightly, like walking up stairs. I feel like Frankenstein's monster when I need to manually walk. If you want to walk faster, you put your foot out further, this winds up throwing kicks constantly, should have been a bigger separation in control mechanics when it came time to distinguish between taking big strides and kicking, like maybe throwing a knee up or something. Overall good game, I'd probably give it a 7 or so. MUST WORK ON THE CONTROL SCHEME AND SENSITIVITY!!
Isn't kinect great? Even a simple game plays horribly due to the imprecise tracking. Motion gaming is a joke.
This reporter is certainly something to have nightmares about. I think i would rather take my chances with that closing wall.
When you start something new, its not going to be perfect the first time. I'm not getting this, but I hope to see more like this in the future.
@NeilCardiff Lol seriously, the only good kinect game is child of eden but it works better with the controller after the novelty wears off, and it isn't even an exclusive, it is being released on ps3 with move/3d support
i played the game at my friends house and its actually pretty cool but sadly i dont think i'll get this any time soon, too many good games are coming.
Oh man, not this guy again. I can't fault the journalism, but the voice and appearance really detracts. Just have someone normal do video reviews, please?
Basically to everyone wondering. (S)he is a transgender. Although (s)he was born physically a male but has always felt as though (s)he was a female in her heart. Read her blog for more information!
It's nice to finally see a Kinnect game that's not a party game or exercise game. We need more like this if the Kinect is going to appeal to the hardcore gamer!
the gud news here is that there is hope for hardcore kinect games,if some no name developer can come this close imagine what the mighty crytec can do with ryse, not that am excited about ryse (i thot it would challenge God of War, hw wrong i was)
I'm having a bloody good time with this game right now. Hopefully we see more horror/adult oriented Kinect games in the future!
At least saga was brave enough to try something despite it being mediocre...I'll still buy this game...
I'm getting depressed by the amount of potential going to waste on Kinect games... I got an idea... let's make Kinect games that also have a conventional control scheme! Is that so hard?
my friends and i were playing this last night and its not a bad game I guess the reviewer expected this game to realistic. because because of the use of the Kinect and i felt they should have rated this a 7.5 .- So for those who are afraid to get this game Now, because of this Reviewer then rent it first because this is a Decent horror game .
Oh god $$$$ing dammit not him/her again. Not saying that he...she's? A bad reviewer. Its just her voice...ARGGHH!!!
Don't have an Xbox and have never tried Kinect but this looks great! Yest the controls may not be perfect but the fact that they tried something different should be rewarded. Gamespot's scoring system goes on how the game fares in comparison to others in the genre but this is really original so it seems unfair to give it such a mediocre score. 6.5 or 7 maybe? Still enjoyed the review! :)
I feel like this could've been a great game, if it weren't for the use of Kinect... : /
Too bad it wasn't executed better - at least Sega tried something different for Kinect.
I think the promise of kinect is not in fully kinect controlled games, but rather as a control system for specific features in pad controlled games. Kinect just doesn't work for walking around/lower body movement. Developers need to play to it's strengths. I'd love to see an amnesia title for 360 working with a hybrid of kinect controls and sticks.
Well I just bought this game, played it for 2 hours and I must say that I really like it considering that this is the first so called kinect horror game and there's not many options for the kinect right now for us hardcore gamers. So right now I'll take it instead of another kiddy game on the kinect.Yet I some how feel like a roc'em-soc'em robot LoL.
An FPS melee combat game about kiling zombies? SOUNDS GREAT! Off I go to the store to buy Dead Island
