Rise of Flight v. 1.012

User Rating: 9 | Rise of Flight: The First Great Air War PC
Looks like it has been a few months since this game has been reviewed so I thought I would bring things a little more up to date.

Much has been written about this sim so I am not going to rehash all the details, I will just say the intelligent sounding reviews that rate the game 8 or higher are the ones I agree with.

I have been flying this sim on and off since it released and have seen it grow, expand, and improve with each update. The group of Russian developers working hard on this game are devoted, talented, and responsive to the flight simmers they are programing this sim for. They are an impressive and talented team of developers with an eye for detail!

This latest update 1.012, brings Rise of Flight to a state of polish that we could only dream about when the game originally launched. The game always ran pretty well, but now on my quad core i7 Win 7 64 and 6 Gigs of system RAM it runs like a movie. And this is with a rather dated ATI 4850 with most details maxed. A lot of guys play with dual core rigs and if they have them paired with a high end vid card they do well. But it is a demanding game, so the more hardware you can throw at it the smoother it runs, and the better it will look.

I want to tell any WW1 air combat fans that if you haven't picked up Rise of Flight you are missing out on the true successor to Red Baron 3D. In everything but a full dynamic campaign spanning the entire war, RoF delivers big time. No other WW1 combat flight sim can deliver the intense realism of flying these temperamental, primitive aircraft in combat. Once you experience the excellence of Rise of Flight it is tough to go back to flying any of the older WW1 flight combat sims.

This is really more of an update than a review written to give you guys sitting on the fence some encouragement to give it a go. Seriously, if you think you would enjoy a challenging, realistic, beautiful, modern WW1 air combat flight sim; Rise of Flight is the only game in town, and really it should not be missed!
