A little-known game that is remembered more for the poor choice of between round animation than it's fun boxing.

I'm writing this review mainly to dispute the previous one that looks down at this game from the lofty view of twenty years past and never playing it back when it was the only boxing game on the NES.

The graphics are simple, the boxers all look the same with different colors being the only way to tell them apart. The trainers look to be a little too helpful between rounds.

What the game does offer is a deep boxing sim with experience points and a fun two player boxing game that is the best and possibly only one on the NES.
You pick a generic boxer, you name him, you start training, you fight, train repeat. The trick to the game is, you can box in a two player match with your built characters and let the 2P stand there. You get to beat him senseless while you gain experience. Keep doing this and pretty soon your guy is more powerful and you can go into the game and beat the computer. Keep doing this and you'll eventually be maxed out and you can literally punch guys not just out of the ring, but into the balcony!

It's a fun boxing game that while not as fun or produced as Punch Out, offers what Punch Out doesn't, a boxing game with increasing stats and multiplayer bouts. Yes it has the unfortunate animation decision that somehow made it past the testers, but really it's your own dirty mind that makes that what you think it is.

Give it a try, and I think you'll be surprised you missed this one. Here's hoping for a Virtual Console release.
