Fun to play and holding a long time.

User Rating: 8.3 | Ridge Racer PSP
The Ridge Racer sega started in the 90's and still, 10 years later it is still going good. New releases almost every year makes the Ridge Racer sega good. This racing sega has only been coming out for plug-in consoles. Now it is new times. This time the game comes out for the Playstation Portable and it does the job great.

The concept of Ridge Racer is really simple. Just like other racing games where you have to choose a car and then you have to race 2 or three laps and if you win you get a car or a prize, but Ridge Racer is outstanding because it compines a lot of good content that gives the game the extra plus. For example the boost system. You don't just get a bunch of boost in the start of the game and then you can spend that. No, thats not even near. You start with one out of three barrels full with boost. After you have spend that you don't have anymore, unless you like to drift. The cool thing about this system is that you have to drift to get nitro. If you drift at any corner in one lap you will get around 2,5 barrels of nitro full. Then you can use that and then you can drift you to some more.

The difficulty of this game is actually a bit hard because when you have completed the main races you have to race against future cars and thats just unfair. You can only get the car you got from the intro game and then you are up against a lot of big bad future cars. They are two times faster than you even if you have the future car from the intro game they are still double as fast as you. Even if you get in front of them, a single hit to the wall makes them go a lot longer up at you. Then the game gets a lot annoying and frustrating, but before that part the game is actually amazingly fun.

The graphics of this game is also over the average. The cars have a lot of good details and they all have their own shape. You won't see two cars with the same shape and just a different texture. Not a single time. That just shows how much work they have been putting into this game. The environment in the game is also a lot detailed and of course the game has good looking sky's and grass in the side road. That is also a big plus.

The gameplay of Ridge Racer for the Playstation Portable is so big that you can get lost sometimes. The game has to offer around 100 cars and around 20 tracks. After you have done all those there is the wireless mode. This mode can support 2-8 players at a time and then you can have a big party and have a lot of fun playing this game a full night with your friends. So this game is also a really nice one if you need a game in a hurry and need it for cheap money. Ridge Racer is a bit old now and you will find it easily to a low price. So the gameplay is also good and all the other things is good but what about the sound of the game.

The sounds is about average. Some techno-rock when you drive and some wroom-wrooms here and there. They could not put a lot more sounds into this game, but it sounds okay and you can live with it. It is not like other games where you hear crap rock music and some high low quality car sounds. This game has some nice sounds that you can hear again and again without getting tired of it.

Ridge Racer is overall a good game you will find for little money. If you don't have it you should go get it.
