Now i have played ridge racer back on the PS one in the late 90's an i have to say i didn't particularly think it was good. I tried Ridge racer 64 and DS an thought they were OK. I then tried Ridge Racer 7 and thought this was OK too, nothing about the games really wanted to make me master them.

I don't know what it is about this version but it Makes me want to play it, the 3D visuals draw your sight into the tracks, you can judge your power slides to slip between two racers, drifting is not On-rails as gamespot would have you believe, it only apears on-rails if you leave your car to it, you can adjust the angle of your drift as you go around the corners, very subtly with the stick , espicially in dynamic cars where this becomes essential later in the game.

For me the sense of speed in this game is superb.Without the 3D i have to say it looks slow alot like Ridge racer 7, but with the 3D because your car is in the foreground and the track excentuated, the speed really is up there nearly in comparison to the likes of F Zero.

It has alot of tracks and i happen to love the red rock canyon track it's a great addition and it looks great contrary to what gamespot say. Also cheap 3D? ticker tape and grass? these were in Ridge racer 7,making them 3D was a no brainer and it would have been an insult if they had left these simple effects out.

This has also rekindled My interest in Ridge racer, i've gone back to try and Master 7, ALL because of this game.Where other recent entries never really kept me wanting to play (e.g ridge racer 2 on PSP), Ridge racer 3D has shown me the joy that this franchise can give, and in my opinion it is largely due to the 3d visuals. Some say it's a gimmick, i happen to think it adds yet another layer of immersion into our games.

While all of the flaws of Ridge racer remain, peculiar physics, cheating AI and odd slowdown on some bends (ridge racer 7 even has this occurance), this in my opinion is the PERFECT entry for anyone who never really got into Ridge racer, it's fast, fun, pick up and play and has enough meat to it to keep you playing.I also like the random tournament generator, which picks random tracks, a good addition considering you will be playing this in quick bursts on journeys.

A great addition to the series, superb for beginners and simply fun arcade racing that pulls you in.Worth every penny.I cannot wait to see more Racers on 3DS it has great potential, excite truck, F-zero, Outrun, burnout all deserve to be on this system.
