User Rating: 8.5 | Ridge Racer 3D 3DS
Ridge Racer 3DS is one of my favorite games for the system. The fact that this is also in 3D made it a great buy for me. Hell, i got it at Target for $20 bucks! It was definitely worth the 20 bucks, because while Ridge Racer 3D has its faults, it's still packs a punch for the 3DS.

Features

The Ridge Racer series has always been unique as there never has been one shortcut ever. The franchise has always focused on speed and power slides. Adding 3D to it makes it even better. The 3D is great because it makes the game feel bigger and faster. I love it.

The controls are outstanding and essentially make this game great. Pressing the A button ever so slightly can send your car into a power sliding frenzy, and is really fun to pass other racers. I also love the nitro boost meter, which allows to fill up THREE BOOSTS! You can even use all of them at once! As you advance the branching Grand Prix's, you'll face tougher cars and you'll have to finish the last race in first place, which can be annoying considering you beat the last three. Not a big deal though, because you can just restart from the last race you lost. The tracks are spectacular, offering tons of big air, and high flying speed. I love the airport with its amazing purple sunset, and the port offers a terrific sunset lake. You can customize your car, which is surprisingly is easy and fun to do, and you can unlock later parts by paying with your points.

The game does get repetitive, as all you do is race without any challenges or missions. The annoying announcer really got on my nerves, as she just repeats the same lines over and over again. The menu is also annoying, as you cannot go back to the track menu, instead to the main menu!! Why do you have to press star to exit the pause screen (since X is to accelerate)? Come on now!

Graphically, the game looks beautiful, with detailed tracks, cars, brilliant framerate and lighting effects and a fantastic 3D effect. The music is a mixed bag, but some of the tunes (such as Heat Shadows) kick ass and have an industrial metal vibe.

Ridge Racer 3D is a fantastic racer for the 3DS with beautiful graphics and fast and fun gameplay. Despite it's flaws, it's still way better than Asphalt 3D, and 3DS owners hungry for a racing game should consider this.
