A game that I should have judged by the cover

Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is a game that doesn't appeal to most western gamers but after forcing myself to push through the awkward musical numbers I was able to actually complete this game and kill some free time. That time could have been better spent though as this game is not the best choice for an American RPG fan such as myself. The overall vibe of this game is one that might appeal to a little girl. The premise is that you play a girl who sets out on a journey to free a prince whom you are in love with but have never spoken to. You can also talk to puppets and have them join your party but only 3 can fight along with you at a time during turn based battles. Unfortunately when you acquire these puppets they start at level 1 which means that the puppets you have been fighting with already are much more powerful leaving little incentive for you to try out your new characters. What's worse is that the game is so easy and none of the enemies have any resistance to any of your attacks so there is no reason for you to ever switch up your party. The story is somewhat touching but it's still awkward when it gets too cutesy and character break out into musical numbers without warning and there is no way to skip it. As far as exploration goes it is very easy to get lost inside the dungeons but there are item that can put you back on the world map. There are no side quests to be spoken of aside from looting some optional dungeons. One feature that I thought was really nice though, that you don't see in a lot of RPGs on the PS1 is the save anywhere feature. I would not recommend this game to males who cringe at things too girly (I played it as an Atlus fan and a review hobbyist) but if you are looking for a short and easy strategy RPG, this may be a good starting point.
