Sometimes games that are different and chalange you perspective on games are rare and far between, this sleeper cult gem is one of the supprises I've been looking for.
This isn't so much a game but an experence, style overtops substance. There really is no plot but that's fine by me shooters weren't really known for plot and from the look and play of the game doesn't need it, all you need to know is just shoot everything that moves and don't die.
The gameplay is soild it's similar to those 3-D shooters like "Space Harrier" and "Panzer Dragon"One of the unique things of the game is the digital character you play as you go along can power up as you collect energy pellets by hitting flying silver globes. Not just will your character look more whole but your fire power will strenghen. I wouldn't say this is really anything special but I just wanted to point it out.
The graphical design is just gorgious, I could tell that it was highly influenced by the film "Tron" heck the third level boss looks like the Master Control Program from the film. It really give you that otherworldly quality as if your really are flying in a digital world that is one step real and unreal, it will just eat your eyes whole. I won't spoll it for you they are sights you just gotta see for yourself to believe. I even love the designs of the bosses the boss battles are just excelent, my favorate bosses are the third boss I mentioned but also the forth which are litteral digital pixals that can morph into a ship, person or just plain scattered pixals kinda like a Transformer but digitized.
But also what makes this game standout is in it's music score which is just beautiful. Not just in the background music that goes on but each enimy you shoot down make certain unique sounds which contribute to the music. This makes the game more than just a mere shooter but also a rythym game, and it's a beautiful combo of the two generes. You feel like your another member of a band contibuiting to the song playing with you beats. So I'm not just gunning to survive and get further but to get the best sound and beats.
I would of loved to of given this game a higher score except one thing about this game holds it back. It's rather short and kinda easy by my standards, after going though the game I wanted more, I wouldn't of minded at least three more levels but oh well, the ride may be short but it's a sweet ride.
Rez is a solid shooter that pumps up the volume and color.

Not only Rez HD is a steal at 800 MS Points, it is perhaps the best game available on Xbox Live Arcade right now.
