Resident Evil 6 Review

  • First Released Oct 2, 2012

Resident Evil 6's messy mix of annoying quick-time events and constant set pieces makes it a poor caricature of modern-day action games.

With Resident Evil 6, a once-mighty series makes another stumble. From a production standpoint, this atmospheric third-person shooter (this is no survival horror game, certainly) hits a number of high notes, weaving multiple stories into a single narrative that you untangle from different perspectives. It's unfortunate that actually interacting with Resident Evil 6 is an excruciating chore. This is a wannabe action film that resents your interference, and punishes you by forcing one horrible quick-time event after another upon you.

Now Playing: Video Review - Resident Evil 6

That Resident Evil 6 wants to be a movie is evident in almost every facet of its gameplay. Plenty of games dramatize their events through extended cutscenes, Metal Gear Solid being an oft-cited example of a series known for long-winded cinematics. Having many cutscenes isn't a problem in and of itself; constantly interrupting the flow of gameplay, on the other hand, is Resident Evil 6's disappointing calling card.

In a typical five-minute stretch, you might watch a cutscene, walk for five seconds, trigger another cutscene, open a door, perform a quick-time event, view another cutscene, shoot some mutated freaks, and then do nothing while you wait for your co-op partner to finish some task or another before you can continue on. All through that stretch, the camera changes position countless times, you're forced to walk really slowly for a while, and an almost-unavoidable scripted "gotcha" moment gifts you with a game-over screen ("You Are Dead"), forcing you to replay the sequence while wondering what you could have done to prevent it.

These problems infiltrate all four of Resident Evil 6's campaigns, though each campaign shifts its focus and tone--and all but Ada Wong's puzzle-driven campaign (unlocked when you have finished the other three) feature cooperative play. In Leon Kennedy's campaign, you play as either Leon or newcomer Helena Harper, while your cohort is left to the care of another player, or of the AI. Leon's campaign is the most traditional, recalling the fourth and fifth chapters of the series by way of mysterious locations like an eerie graveyard and creep-strewn city streets. In a campaign that looks to military shooters for inspiration, Chris Redfield joins fellow BSAA operative Piers Nivens in war-torn streets to shoot up infected foes and larger-than-life bosses. Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin's campaign is focused more on scripted events than the others and lacks the thematic cohesion of the other three (unless you count an overload of contextual button prompts as a theme). A short prelude introduces you to the basic mechanics, which are mostly identical across the campaigns. It also functions as a warning of what's to come.

Jiggle the stick as fast as you can if you wish to avoid a kiss from Aunt Mabel.
Jiggle the stick as fast as you can if you wish to avoid a kiss from Aunt Mabel.

Right off the bat, you notice what is to be a common theme in Resident Evil 6: quick-time events are prominent to the point of distraction. Keep your thumbs limber and your trigger fingers ready, for you will be hammering buttons and jiggling thumbsticks ad nauseam. Wiggle that stick to get the monster off you! Furiously tap that button to crawl faster! Making matters worse is that the quick-time events aren't even that well implemented. Some of them require superhuman wiggling speeds; others, like those that require alternating trigger presses, don't have a clear rhythm. And succeeding means triggering a sonic zing and a bright circular eruption that distract you from the dramatic animations.

Even ignoring quick-time events, button prompts are the rule rather than the exception. Capcom drops in so many set piece moments that they lose their luster. Good set pieces--that is, large scale events with major visual punch and limited interactivity--punctuate gameplay, rather than replace it. Here, they constantly disrupt the gameplay, and a few types of set pieces emerge as clear developer favorites. One such type is the "run toward the camera" bit, in which you hold a button to sprint toward the camera, and press buttons to leap over obstacles or slide under them. It takes a special talent to make such sequences work, but no such talent is demonstrated here; the camera constantly changes position, which destroys the flow of both the controls and the visuals.

That big boss doesn't look so imposing from a distance.
That big boss doesn't look so imposing from a distance.

Resident Evil 6 is constantly (and annoyingly) playing with camera angles, even outside of the running sections. The worst moments are those that yank control from you and force you to stare at a growling behemoth's dramatic entrance, or a helicopter's flyover, even when you're in the middle of a quick-time event, or engaged in a shoot-out. Smart games either have you hold a button if you want to witness a major incident, or simply allow the incident to happen. Resident Evil 6 is not a smart game. It doesn't care what you're doing: that monster is big, and the game forces the bigness upon you. (And when the sequence is done, the camera may not be in the position in which it started.) Such occurrences are, every time, detrimental to gameplay, and it's shocking how many of them there are.

Not that your co-op partner is usually harmful to the experience. If you play on your own, the AI does a great job of knowing what to do and where to go. The game does have a few good co-op ideas up its sleeve, such as a sequence in which one player swims from the snapping jaws of a finned fiend, and the other must shoot it. But the good ideas are too often let down by troublesome execution: in that same sequence, your mission objective might contradict what the game actually needs you to do. Other times, one player waits around with nothing to do, while the other slashes up bio-organic weapons (that is, B.O.W.s) and finally opens a door or lowers a ladder. Most cooperative actions simply involve opening a door together. And boy is there a lot of door opening in Resident Evil 6.

In between the frequent set pieces, the quick-time events, and the cooperative door kickings, there is some mutant killing. The core mechanics are similar to those in other third-person shooters, but with the idiosyncrasies that defined Resident Evils 4 and 5. The camera stays close behind your back, movements like leaping and crouching are contextual rather than freely available, and the pace is deliberate. Shooting grotesqueries often results in new mutations: bulbous growths sprout from the necks of advancing fiends, and disgusting diminutive creatures spawn from their hosts and skitter along the floor. You can also kick and pummel your foes, though whether you prefer to keep your distance or get right in there, the lumbering lunatics react properly, knocking over other infected as they lurch from the power of your shotgun blasts. If you find the deliberate action appealing, you can devote some time to the returning Mercenaries mode, in which you and a buddy (or you alone) off as many enemies as you can before the clock ticks down to zero.

It's unfortunate that Resident Evil 6's campaigns want so desperately to take you out of the action. A single bullet from a sniper can knock you to the ground; you can either get to your feet and reposition yourself, or just shoot while you're down until the right time to rise presents itself. In Jake's campaign, getting knocked down on a particularly icy slope means sliding all the way to the bottom, and having to make the climb again. As is typical for Capcom action games, long animations need to finish before you regain control--and that kind of approach could have worked fine in a game that sticks closely to the Resident Evil 4 template.

But Resident Evil 6 is focused less on building tension than any previous game in the main series, and the over-deliberate mechanics don't always mesh well with the action-game sensibilities and highly linear levels. The claustrophobic behind-the-back camera in cramped hallways, the knockback loops, the cumbersome method of combining herbs and healing yourself--these facets once worked well to help instill a sense of terror and make you consider every action and every step. In Resident Evil 6, a game that mostly leaves its survival horror roots behind, the same attributes hinder your enjoyment.

Another set piece event? You don't say!
Another set piece event? You don't say!

That isn't to say that Resident Evil 6 is hard. On medium difficulty, you can often run right past the baddies, or just spam a trigger and punch them to death. You needn't worry about ammo all that often; the only time you're likely to run out is when you face a bullet-sponge boss and there's no more ammo to be had in the battle arena. But while you won't often die due to the level of challenge (unless you crank up the difficulty, of course), you might not be able to escape a few of the game's "gotcha" deaths. With little warning, a vehicle might crash through a barricade, and if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, you're dead. When an avalanche occurs, if you don't know to expect it, you might not have enough room to veer your snowmobile away. (This is one of several mediocre vehicular segments.) That's not challenging: that's cheap, and it's bad game design.

While Resident Evil 6 is no survival horror game, it does have a few memorably tense moments. In Leon's campaign, flashes of lightning in a dark cemetery might have you jumping once or twice, and the appearance of Resident Evil's famous zombie dogs will have you reliving the franchise's good old days. The visit to an old cathedral that follows is similarly evocative, considering its roots in the series' past. Where the game most impresses is in its production values, particularly in sound and narrative. Each campaign tells a different story--but those four stories overlap in interesting ways before they diverge again. You need to play the unlockable campaign to make sense of every mystery, but this is a great way to learn tall tales of the latest global threat.

Leon recovers from a particularly exhausting struggle with the left analog stick.
Leon recovers from a particularly exhausting struggle with the left analog stick.

Grand voice acting gives the melodramatic story plenty of weight. The talented cast makes every sullen regret, every cry for help, and every enthusiastic encouragement ring true, even in the midst of the most fantastical of events. The gross, squishy sound effects are so potent that you might try to wipe imaginary goo from your clothes. The cutscenes deserve special mention. A slow-motion shot of a bus's interior, a character's shocking fall from a great height, and a tense standoff between allies are but a few examples of the excellent cinematics that drive the story onward.

But how far can cinematics get you when the gameplay sandwiched between them is so poorly paced, so utterly misconceived, so reliant on stick wriggles and button tapping? There's a place for contextual prompts and cinematic storytelling in video games, but Resident Evil 6 is a mishmash of elements put together without any sense of care or direction. Series faithful might stumble through for the sake of story, and perhaps to appreciate those few moments that recall when Resident Evil was at its peak glory. But this long, poor sequel is the ultimate test of patience for even the most dedicated.

The Good

  • Intriguing narrative structure
  • Great voice acting and action-packed cutscenes draw you into the story

The Bad

  • Loads of bad, overlong quick-time events
  • Excruciating overemphasis on mediocre set piece events
  • Ruins the pace by constantly ripping control from you
  • Poorly executed scripted events lead to unavoidable deaths

Agent Hunt mode could have been a revolutionary thing - but it's hampered by the fact that many of the monsters are either clumsy or too ill-suited for the camera design.

See here for a player floundering around with a Rasklapanje.

On the other hand, these problems can be overcome with practice - lots of practice, which is only possible if one is a dedicated fan of this flawed game, and if the players playing the heroes are complete idiots.

Thus far, I have the impression that the combat is rather clunky and clumsy, as well as a slog, especially for someone's first playthrough. After I did research on the game's system of "skills", I believe that the combat has been deliberately gimped just to accommodate the effect of the skill upgrades.

For example, the presence of the Breakout skill option very much explains why the QTEs for breaking free of enemies' strange-holds are so tedious.

Yet, the biggest problem about the game, I believe, is its camera. It changes perspectives too much, and even its default position makes the player character obscure close to half of the screen. It is a camera that is designed to be more cinematic rather than user-friendly.

Moreover, the game has so many pretty and detailed environments, made by great artists - yet all the level designers could think of is to have the player hunt for keys, medals and other baubles.

I want to say here that some of the combat scenarios are better conceived, or at least more outrageously entertaining than the others in the game. Specifically, I am referring to the final boss fight in each story arc.

For example, I was quite entertained by the boss fights with Derek Simmons - skewering zombies with a lightning rod was hilarious, as was watching how Simmons was able to keep up with his mutations and even shake them around for variety's sake. As another example, I certainly wasn't expecting Piers to turn out the way he did; the series up to then has always insisted that the player character is a mainly human one and stays so.

However, the other boss fights are not fun, especially the ones with Lepotitsa specimens. They seemed awful and droll to me.

Also, bugs - like this one where the behavior scripts for two non-player-characters froze, and an enemy whose pathfinding script appears to have borked.

The game's scenarios are hardly scary, but at least Leon's segments, especially the early ones, have some sense of desperation. There are also more than a few references to Leon's beginnings in Leon's segments too, such as a scenario which occurs in a gun shop.

Unfortunately, the game has to shoot itself in the foot by including some infuriating absurdities. One example is the gun shop owner triggering the steel shutters for the ground floor of the shop, after Leon and company fended off a horde of zombies that could have been kept out by the shutters in the first place. Whatever satisfaction that could be had from this scenario is dashed by disbelief.

Another example of an awful scenario is Ada Wong having to answer a series of questions while fending off B.O.W. soldiers. The Q&A session in this scenario could have been tucked into a cutscene.

Also, how the f*ck did the centuries-old corpses in the catacombs of Leon's segment get dynamite? I looked for any in-game documentation which would explain, but all I have is this and it doesn't say a f*cking thing about reanimated corpses getting their hands on dynamite.

After so many roller coaster moments and scurrying about looking for keys and shit, the player is then given a tragic-but-awkward ride in Leon and Helena's segment. The changes in pacing are so abrupt.

It was just barely 2 minutes into the intro and already the player has to mash "X". That's some foreshadowing of the button-mashy QTEs.

Also, the intro was supposed to be thematically forlorn, but the developers injected this stupid analog-stick-twiddling mini-game in, together with flashy snazz and sound effects that just seem so out of place.

Then there is the disparity in quality of the voice-overs, such as those for the main characters and those for the seemingly Cantonese-speaking infected people in Redfield and Piers' section.

There are just so many things that lead to a bad impression about the direction of this game.

dont care picked the game on sale , and really liked it . Actually enjoyed it more than resident evil 1/2 . Fans are whinny bitches , i remember my friend was whining how resident evil went down the hills because suddenly zombies became faster . Now you can dodge enemies , instead of turning around and running away at same slow speed . Pc control scheme is little bit annoying and some of quick action event are going to kill you because game expect you to quickly see a track crashing into you and jump out the way . Also i call bullshit on not feeling like a survival game , lots of zombies limited ammo there are parts of the game i felt like im being overwhelmed . Slow and deliberate does not equate to survival game .

As always **** you hipster gamespot

4.5 for a game without major flaw or bug.

People can make a better judgement when they don't put emotion above reason.

There's difference between below expectation and under-performance. Sure, more horror element and appropriate puzzle would be appreciated. I love survival situations in Leon campaign most(It kinda remind me of The Walking Dead series), said by RE fan who's beaten the game twice and would personally give 8.5/10 for it.

The reviewers have been too harsh on Resident Evil 6. I would give this game a 7/10. I feel it loses marks on the 'unavoidable deaths factor during scripted events'.

Sometimes I realize I might sound rude with my oppinions about people who like shooters or games with too much shooting and no thinking... Just a couple of hours ago I was standing in front of a games' store, and I saw, in a 60" LED tv a shooter I haven't seen before, awesome graphics, terrific sound effects, it was a thrill !!! I have nothing againts shooters and games alike... but I spend a lot of time playing games (probably too much time)... Doctors say "brain is a muscle"... Old RE games made me feel I was excercising my "little gray cells" as old good Poirot says... but now...(sigh) just excersicing my thumbs squishing buttons... I'm not expecting a game to teach me the meaning of life... (and of course, you'd be right if you tell me "want action for your brain?go read a book!!!) I miss those old good times with a RE full of brain teasers...

Hi Thanks for the video, I am a fan of Resident Evil in general, this is my first time ever leaving any comments on any website, I feel I need to get it off my chest, When getting a copy RE6, I saw some reviews on YouTube, I have skipped many Resident Evil, the first RE I had was the first one back in 1996, and I skipped 4 and 5, now I wanted to try what is new in the latest RE. Can't stop noticing all the negative reviews I am seeing, however that didn't stop me from buying RE6.

After playing few hours, I noticed few things that really irritated me. Not so much what ppl in the review says about the horror VS action problem, you can still get the horror effect by using just the knife aiming at the zombies head. That is frightening, try that for the horror fans. As far as I remember back in the first few releases of RE, the game is actually playable with normal difficult settings and kill normal zombies with just knifes, the Licker or Hunter might be difficult but not impossible. The worst thing about RE6 would probably be the camera/movement in 3rd person, half of the time, I can only see Chris' back and I can't see what is in front of Chris, I had huge difficulty going from places to place, the camera angle sort of forcing player from looking at certain angles, making the game play extremely uncomfortable, I really don't mind the action game, it could have as much movement as possible, but the camera issue is a big problem, a best example of a good 3rd person in my 20 something years of gaming is probably Mario 64, where you see mario, you can zoom in to first person or zoom out as far as looking like StarCraft, plus you can rotate the whole canvas 360 °.

2ndly, Whilst healthy low, whilst combining the green herbs, can't stop noticing zombies coming out from nowhere, I like the earlier RE, where you kill the zombies they stay dead, even after hours, their corpse is exactly where you left them, RE6 makes the dead zombies evaporate to save the game memory, or RE6 is designed that you can't stay in the same position too long, the game designer is trying to say AFK is not allowed in RE6, which I don't mind at all, I could hold my pee and not go to toilet for hours no problem. However when these zombies coming out from nowhere, right before they jump on me I had their head shot off, yet I was still killed by it, this is a bug issue that capcom might need to fix.

I have few more things to say, but the other issues are minor, maybe these 2 are the most irritating things. Overall I have say RE6 is a disappointment, and a trash, I won't play it again. I like the good old RE where I actually played the game over and over, at least 20-30 times I finihsed the same game with the same story line. Overall earlier RE made its game enjoyable by finding the perfect harmony point between graphics and gameplay, what I mean here is that although the graphics sucks back in 1996, but the game play and movement and camera angle was perfect for the gameplay. Now with all the great graphics and computer power, I am expecting to see the perfect harmony point with current graphics and gameplay. Think about it... Mario 64 game size is about 100mbs or less with operating in a 100MHZ CPU. On the other hand we have RE6 more or less 10GBs of file size with PS3's 3.2GHZ CPU + GPU + RAM. compare the sizes and specs, I am expecting just as good as gameplay as Mario 64, is this too much to ask?

Leon's campaign was ok, now I'm playing Chris' and...I'ts so "shooter-like" that somethimes I forget what game I'm playing... I must admit that after I read the review I didnt feel like getting this game, but It's just a matter of personal prefferences... I heard very awful thing about Resident Evil Revelations (which I played last week) but I really enjoyed it... Anyway, I agree with the reviewer that this game has too much quick time events, and sometimes I feel like the game "runs on wheels"

(Sigh) Let's face it guys, old school Resident Evil is long gone... But, humbly, I dont think this game deserves a 4.5... Something between 6 and 7 is the score I would give it...

@Shirl_Tubarov

let me tell you a fact.
there was a time when the "Electronic Entertainments" market was full of ppl like you & me (RE6 haters).
I call us "1st gen 3D gamers". we were a kind of ppl who enjoyed playing games that tickled (or exploded) your brain (you had to make plans and strategise), scared the hell out of you,
made you sweat, laugh, cry... every mission we passed playing these games, gave us a sense of accomplishment and pride and we really loved that.
we were the type of ppl that game making companies had to please in order to make money and stay in business. so, they had to be smart, creative, careful and hardworking.
that, resulted in the production of the most beloved games we know such as NFS, DMC, Hitman, Tomb Raider... and of course RE.
today when you look at us, we're mostly between 20 to 30 years old, essentially "out" of the market because we have grown up
and more important things take priority in our lives. we're too busy to play games and don't spend enough money buying EE products.
really bad for business if you were Capcom.
so what do they do?
aim at the new kids in market. the new generation of gamers if you will.
it'll take a while until they reach 30. a good source of income.
a description of "The new gen":
rich, arrogant bags of lard (or barrels depending on their age) with a small brain of no more than 80 I.Q.
who are not in the mood to use their brains, burn some of that fat and tire themselves to overcome an obstacle in a game (nor can they).
the type of ppl that game making companies have to please in order to make money and stay in business. so, they have to be... NEW.
that means everything needs to be "CoD ified" or it won't sell.
a description of CoD ified:
move the cursor until it's on the vertical bad guy. push RT, R2 or left click until the bad guy becomes horizontal.
move forward and repeat this procedure until you see the ending credits.

god... I miss those times...

@Navidoom Let me tell you that I agree with you far beyond my poor level of english language... At this point, I want to share a secret with you and you can laugh if you want, but sometimes I fell these "New-gen games" so "CoDified" are missing something...it's just about "go go go, shoot shot shot"... and somethimes, I feel like I need something else...that's why I support a game gender that was absolutly unknown to me until last summer: hiden object games ( I hear loud laughs coming....) But believe me, there's a lot of those games developed by very smart people who are able to tell you magnificent stories (God, there are even HOG about Edgard Alan Poe's stories !!!!) with awesome puzzles and intriguing characters. At first I didnt want to have anything to do with those kind of gamers...I though they were "10-years-old-girls"oriented...But I was wrong. Today I find somethimes more joy in indie games...Ten years before, I played almost every single game that came out...with age comes "wisdom", this year was a very "poor gamer year" for me... no more than...half a dozen "major titles"...

1. your english is faaar beyond poor.

2. I never laugh at someone who enjoys solving puzzles and deep immersive stories.

3. you beautifully provided the short version for my definition of CoDification: go go go, shoot shoot shoot.

I don't know if you remember the games that were called adventure games. full of puzzles and nice stories. games like Broken sword. I really liked them. it's been almost 6 or 7 years since I last saw a game of this genre. despite that, I can still see some companies caring about such things. IMO the closest thing these days to "puzzles and stories" are RPG games and we've seen a few good ones in the last few years (I'm an RPG sucker!). thank god for that!

Thanks for the review. I hate quick time button selecting/mashing. Also those quick time deaths. I guess I will play #4 on gamecube again if I want to play Resident Evil.

Hm, either way I'd rate this, it'd still round up or down to a 9.0. Not all aspects in this game are superb, but I guess overall, for me, that's what it comes to. I was just listening to the soundtrack, so I thought I'd rate the game since I've been doing that again recently. This games reception is polarizing, this time I'm not on the side of GameSpot, then again, GameSpot from a professional critic perspective is actually in the minority by giving it a truly bad score.

terrible review. 4.5 writer score vs. average 7.1 score by users; what a huge gap in gaming opinion. RE 6 has everything you want in a Resident Evil game. face it, RE will never go back to its old 90's way of gaming. i thought this was an excellent excellent RE version. it's well-done cinematics are what a lot of people look for. The game is difficult at the No Hope level. I finish almost all xbox 360 games in one day at a Hard level. This one took me several days. Four different campaigns that are very unique to each character; very awesome. The ONLY gripe I have would be the terrible camera angles. There's also an online aspect to the game. The campaign is solid as the multiplayer. Excellent job Capcom! Boo for the terrible review.

@BadReviews A review is his opinion. I would give the game 1/10, because I'm taking into account the budget they had. They did a craptastic shit job with this game, and that is reflected in the games poor sales.

RE6 is not about innovative game design to be sure - but that doesn't mean its a bad game. The combat system is pretty deep - better than in past RE games. The game has quick-time events - I personally found them to be quite fun. The storyline is ok - way over the top and heavily influenced by hollywood - but if you can get past that it is somewhat enjoyable. Overall its not a bad game - yes the game design is a bit stale but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying it.

Just saw it online for the 360 for $9, guess that should have been the original price. Think I'll pick it up!

I completely agree with Kevin too, it is the ultimate test of patience for even the most dedicated fan, the accuracy in gameplay is one of the pillars of modern gaming, and this game falls terribly short!

I've take my time waiting for the pc version and play it all long, and i can say... re6 is great man! is a history with 4 points of view and you need to play them all to really understand it and each one with his own style. and the mercenaries are cool, i liked more each day i play.

Haters, keep hating, i'm gonna have fun! :D

Its odd how some of you can slate Kevin's opinions like they are not important and then bleat on like your opinions are the only one's that matter.

It's irrelevant if you disagree with him not, he's given his thoughts on the game and thats what he's paid to do. More so, he's been brave enough to be honest knowing the flack he would take for it.

Would we rather these reviewers lied? Give dishonest reviews based on what they think people want to hear?

Personally, I'd give it a 6.5 at best. Not because of the older games in the franchise, but because I just didn't enjoy it that much, there are much better games in this genre, and the thought of playing it again fills me with dread.

And for me that's the deal breaker. When I completed resi 1, 2, 3 and yes - even 4, I wanted to complete it again straight away. But 5 and 6 - well, lets just say it will be a while before I crank them on again.

Sorry to let you chaps know, but just finished Jakes campaign after Leon and Chris's and it's awesome too. Ada's campaign also has the Resident Evil DNA with the puzzling and all. Nothing about this game is a let down...and again, one of the best games this gen.

Grabbed this on Steam to blast through it with a friend, both of us have always been giant fans of the series since the original. It's truly bizarre to see the direction they took the series in with this game, but I will admit the game is still fun if you play with a buddy.

Everything about re6 is braindead, from the terrible writing to the ridiculous focus on action set pieces and QTE (thankfully you can turn a lot of them off in the PC version), but there are also some undeniably fun coop sections.

Basically, I can imagine this game was quite dull to play on your own and with all the QTE enabled, but it really is good lighthearted and goofy fun if you play it with a friend. I know that's not what was probably intended by the developers, but that is ultimately what it has come down to for me.

That's Leon's campaign, it's like RE2 with zombies again out of nowhere so the darkness is the point of it. The other campaign is more action, so try those instead because Leon's campaign is going to get darker in the cemetery.

Before you continue the game, I suggest changing the camera setting to these:
Field of View: 10
Field of View When Aiming: 10
Viewing Position while Aiming: 7

The game suddenly becomes a lot better with these settings.

@Rohan75 I wonder if Yahtzee played it? I know he's supposed to find faults in games, but I didn't find any of the flaws noteworthy. One of the best games I've played in a long time.

@Kryptonbornson @Rohan75

RE6 got bad reviews from these 3 categories of people:

1) Those who decided to complain about the series direction to action now even though it's 8 years already since it has changed, even then there's RE Revelations in the same year to compensate for the lack of horror and even in May this year so they're just a bunch of hypocrite degenerates morons

2) Those internet trolls that just mocks the game like a bunch of autistic attention seeking freaks because everyone else do it too

3) They hated Capcom because of the various stupid and customer ripping conducts so they decided to wrongly accuse the developers of the game instead of just blaming Capcom for a hundred of other stupid decisions.

Number 3 I can understand since Capcom's higher ups are one of the worst human beings ever alongside Activision and EA, but 1 and 2 I don't have a bit of sympathy with. They are degenerate hypocrite autists that deserve to have their arms, tounges and eyeballs cut off so the world will be a better place to live.

Here's a counter video for the more negative reviewers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_MY3BRrE1g

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KbwLRo0MX8

I trust these videos more than Yahtzee whose has no sense of logic sometimes, especially for giving crap to Nintendo, as listed in these mark of shame.

@HokutoSeikun I was 16 when Resident Evil came out and have been playing the main games since then, not even missing the director's cut. The only game you could say I skipped were the Wii remakes. I'm telling you despite what you've heard this game will not only bring back some awesome nostalgia because they went back to their roots after the departure of 4 and 5, but they made it even more awesome. Of course they change the genre, but only really because they have a bigger budget now, better graphics, special effects, and control schemes. I had my fun with those old games even with the tank controls and blocky graphics, but these are the types of games I would have always wanted to play in my teen years, not fixed camera angles and prerendered graphics. This I believe is what Capcom would have done years ago if they could have. The old Resident Evils I think of as limitations rather than a genre unto themselves.

@HokutoSeikun @Kaz32

I never said I'm a veteran gamer, I'm not one. I am just a normal average gamer that gives respect to where it's all due. If a game is good, it's good. If a game is bad, it's bad. If a game is straying from the original root of the series but it's still good, then it's good and I acknowledge that regardless of what the old series is like, just like every other normal human gamer out there. I give props to the creators of the game for making a good game and for the developer to still give Resident Evil Revelations as a compensation for the lack of horror game in the series.

What do you do? Complain about the change in series and mock the game because "it's not like the old games anymore so it suck" and then still buy them. You are number 1 out of the 3 kind of people that I said. Your comment to me right now further proofs to me that you are just a hypocrite. You are like a dog that still comes crawling back to your abusive master that give you poop for your food even though you hated him, just like buying Resident Evil till now even though you told me yourself that you hated how the series has become. Am I right?

@Kaz32 RE is about viral outbreaks along with the bows who are nothing more than life forms that have mutated due to direct contact with the viruses, that is the basic principle of every RE gane before it faded with the last canonical game, thats is the problem RE should NEVER stray from that direction Capcom stupidity is beyond imagination, they implemented the accursed parasitic organisms who did nothing but brings nonsense for this franchise,i still remenber that ridiculous scene from RE4 where the ganados go to the church after hearing its bell, after i watched that i imediately realized that RE would never be the same.

@HokutoSeikun

Still here huh? What, is this review site your nesting ground? Can't you just shut up and live on with your life like a normal human being instead of bothering people that like this game?

So you prefer Capcom to what, bring in the new reboot Resident Evil? Oh that's great, first you hated everything RE has become, and after the new reboot you will go and love Capcom again. What if they make the RE Reboot with all the main characters as drunken university students and every character from the past RE is reinvented to become school people? Oh I'm sure you'll buy that. After all, that is what you want. "Bring back the old RE" you say. Then they give you a reboot with school themed horror and drunk university students as the main character, just like what they did with DmC. You just destroyed RE yourself you fool.

In case you didn't know, Capcom has been doing scams to their customers since the day they started their company. Look at the 10+ Street Fighter updates that's just the same thing over and over with just 1 new character at a charged full price. Look at what they did to Megaman Legends 3, cancelling it "claiming" that there's not enough support to create the game even though there's 100,000 fan support and even a website dedicated to helping make the game happen. Look at MvC 3's stupid update. Look at Lost Planet 3 that will undeniably suck balls. Look at the 10+ Monster Hunter psp games that Capcom release every year with slight improvements. Look at what they did with dlcs in 2012, with day 1 dlcs and ending dlcs for their games.

Those games deserve to have hatred from their fans because Capcom is screwing those up completely. But you fanboy morons from RE, whose only complain is because "this game is not like RE anymore so it sucks" that in itself is not that big of a deal since it's already 8+ years since Resident Evil change its genre, has no legitimate complain about the game and you just make it that big of a deal 8 years later? All your reasons are "this is not RE anymore so it sucks it sucks it sucks". Why does it suck? Because it's not horror anymore? Don't you know that the game's original Japanese title is Biohazard which involves viruses mutations that create monsters like the giant snakes, Tyrants, Mr X, Nemesis and Wesker? Don't you know that after RE1 the plot has evolved from escaping from a mansion to destroying Umbrella from destroying everyone once and for all? Don't you know that the characters from RE1 are expected to grow up to become badasses that can kill more zombies like Ash from Evil Dead and Ripley from Aliens? You should be ashamed of yourselves morons.

In May RE Revelations will be released and suddenly YOU people will buy it like a bunch of ants like a dog that you all are. I'm not buying or ANY Capcom games forward since I have RE6 until Capcom's higher ups are fired and replaced by honest gaming people. And because Capcom think a series reboot is necessary, the new RE Reboot will be released as a University horror game with all the RE1 characters as drunk teenagers as members of STARS, the "special group of supernatural enthusiasts" who can recruit new members like Carlos and Billy Coen, with Ada as school nurse, William Birkin as a crazy science teacher, Wesker as the headmaster of the university "umbrella Institute, where dreams becomes reality", Oswald D Spencer as his father, and HUNK as a gym teacher with gas masks on!!! Yeah, this reboot is going to happen. And most interestingly, the setting will be the same as DmC with two worlds: normal and zombierific where each night zombies roams the school. Enjoy the crap that Capcom will release to you asshole.

@Kaz32 You know what Capcom did ten years ago?im sure that is the reason why RE strayed and they deserve the hate for that, also you talk about trolls but you are the one in wrong place doing wrong comments about the review, can you be more stupid?Capcom have gone so far in their insatiable quest that they forced Mikami to work for their own interests and this is the result.

I started playing this game about 4 hours ago, and after playing it for an hour I decided to watch a movie instead.. Becouse this game felt like a bad japanese animated actionmovie. So I started rewatching ALIENS to save my evening. This game is 15 % actual game and 85% trial and error cutscenes , which is terrible experience for its first hour. If you are into this quick-time event cutscene thing, this game is for you! If you want to rather PLAY a game , get something else.

RE6 problems goes much beyond the gameplay that is only the tip of the iceberg and Kevin knows that, the franchise is a complete nonsense since RE4,yes it is a black sheep of this franchise too RE4 sucess was thanks for the gameplay that was directed to a major audience, having a famous name slaped in the case helped a lot too...argh this abominable new installment.
