Neo Geo Cup '98 Plus Color Review

Soccer games have come a long way over the past 15 years, and its these advancements that make Neo Geo Cup '98 Plus Color seem silly by comparison.

Neo Geo Cup '98 Plus Color is the portable system's soccer game. Like other soccer games, it contains exhibition games for both one and two players. While the gameplay may not stand out, the game's additional mode makes it at least interesting.

That additional mode is the story mode. In story mode, you'll choose a team and take it through several tournaments. As you proceed, you'll earn money, which can be used to purchase power-ups and other items. Some items will prevent injuries and red cards, while others will pump up player stats. It goes a long way to making the game interesting, but in the end, the lackluster gameplay really sinks it.

Soccer games have come a long way over the past 15 years, and its these advancements that make Neo Geo Cup '98 Plus Color seem silly by comparison. Fans of those old, simple soccer games may get a kick out of the story mode, but most of you would do well to just take a pass on this one.
