Return to Mysterious Island is a good adventure game that is worth playing, although it can prove to be very difficult.

User Rating: 8 | Return to Mysterious Island PC
Return to Mysterious Island, which I affectionately named Rtmi is an adventure game set on the Lincoln island from the Classic's Jules Verne novel. You control the beautiful Mina which is the only survivor to her boat crash. The goal of the game is to find a way to escape the mysterious island.

The puzzles of the game get very complicated after a while. They do however, make sense. What is complicated is that you need to mix lots of chemical ingredients in order to make a battery and other things like that. I needed to rely on my mother for that ;-). But it's great because you learn a lot : what is nytroglycerin, etc.

The story is somewhat good sometimes. You really feel immersed in the game and the soundtrack is typical of this kind of game. You really come out to like the setting of the game. Cinematics however are really cheaply rendered, showing Mina's actions with black-and-white sketches. Although the game is short and you'd have liked to discover a bigger part of the island.

Graphics: It's about average for an adventure game in term of graphics, but the setting itself looks amazing (plants, volcano, etc.). Though sometimes you have a hard time finding which objects you can interact with and which ones you can't.

Gameplay:I would had liked a better story and longer game. Sometimes I was just like: oh, something else like that to block my way, need to figure out what to do. Even if the setting is beautiful, it feels like it's just one big level: you'll finish the game going back and forth. The game's handling is pretty well, but I just wanted a bigger level.

If you can find it for 10$ it's worth checking out. A good game, but very short and you really feel like you wanted something longer with a bigger plot. So it's worth it's 8 out of 10 for it's good graphics and immersive setting.
