The game is not so much trying to replicate an NES game as it is trying to be the game you might have daydreamed about as a kid. You played Maniac Mansion and wished that you could get in the car and drive around the city. You played Ninja Turtles and wished you could drive the Turtlevan. You played Ghostbusters and wished it was fun. The game is about delivering that experience much moreso than delivering in-depth or technically accurate gameplay.

The game feels more like GTA: Chinatown Wars than any NES game, but if we're being honest, most NES games aren't very fun. They're mostly just bad platformers.
Come on now. They're not that bad. Sure, none of them are worth $50 today, but I still have a blast sometimes playing Super Mario Bros 1/2/3, Bubble Bobble, The Little Mermaid, DuckTales, TMNT 3: The Manhattan Project, Batman The Video Game (even though it doesn't let me use the Batwing or Batmobile), Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!, and Arkista's Ring.
You played Ninja Turtles and wished you could drive the Turtlevan.
I'm gonna have to stop you right there. You had to get to level 3 to do so, but you could drive the TurtleVan in the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES. Having said that, I admit that that game was not that great.

There is still no escape.

1) I'm all for the 80s and 90s...if you are like me you people played dat nintendo or a sega master system AND the genesis (references)....I forever in my heart have a spot for classics.
2) Someone mentioned here Mike Tyson's Punch Out and Ducktales...yep...love em both. The second Ducktales not so much but the first one was great and hard but well worth it. Punch Out on the NES was cool...I remember Tyson winking at me...but I was foolish enough NOT to hit him...oh the memories. lol.
3) There are many games on NES as platformers that get bashed, but a few do stand out and no I don't mean Felix the Cat or Adventure Time....I can't remember at the moment but there are games that go beyond that realm of just another sidescroller than it is to a mario....it is out there.
My name is the PWBPoster, I'm happy to respond and love NES, Genesis, and SNES. Current gaming....yeah I got it...but buy classic feeling games like DD Neon.
