We team up with the Japanese in an online battle from the floor of the Tokyo Game Show.
TOKYO--You have to look around a bit or you just might miss Resistance: Fall of Man at Tokyo Game Show 2006. The game is hiding on the back side of Sony's booth, and it's broken up into a single-player section and a multiplayer section. We hopped in line and waited our turn to get into an online battle, and so far, it looks like the game's multiplayer mode could be pretty exciting.
Much like the single-player mode, the mode we played pit the insidious alien creatures against human soldiers. Our kiosk dropped us in with the alien team. The alien soldiers have a time-limited ability that lets you move more quickly and see opponents through walls. Other than that, you can jump, execute a melee attack, fire, toss grenades--all of the stuff you'd expect to see in a first-person shooter.
The multiplayer match supports up to 40 players, and the mode we played was a 10-minute team mode that uses Battlefield-like control points to manage spawning. The control points are large columns with smaller colored cylinders inside that correspond to the color of your team. If you control the point, you can spawn there when you die. If you roll up on an enemy point, you can shoot out all of the colored cylinders to take control.
The multiplayer game moves pretty quickly, and things speed up even more when you're using the alien's fast-moving ability, which can be handy if you want to sneak up and bash a human in the skull with the back end of your shotgun. Despite having a large 40-player limit, the size of the map we played in wasn't huge. This kept things moving and kept the level of action pretty high.
Overall, the multiplayer component of Resistance seems cool--even though our alien team lost the battle to those pesky humans. Resistance: Fall of Man is scheduled to be released alongside the PS3 in both Japan and the US.
This game could do for PS3 what Halo did for Xbox. Thats sell them. A Triple A title at launch can only be good for a console. Insomniac have gone all out on this one and you can see it. I cant believe people who like the knock the PS3 still use the old "Theres no games on it". This game is nothing but quality. And everyone stop comparing it to gears of war. They are two different games and both will be great. And I'll have them both.
x1w2c3e4fyzx....... ur a f***ing idiot...... dont spew ur incoherent babble all over a good site like gamespot....
This game looks to be the best launch game for the PS3. That online looks freakin sweet! This is definetly the game i get with my PS3 at launch. *cough looks way better than gears of war cough*
the multiplayer sounds fun as hell (even though hell isnt fun, i just say it is fun even though i havn't played it, it still loks fun) 40 people in a multiplayer full out battle will be really intense, i can't wait.
All i can say is that the only thing goin for this title is the 20v20 multiplayer....bsides that i dont see a difference from GOW....jus another reason that i wont get the ps3....not to sound like a fanboy bcuz when the xbox came out i dint have nething to do w/ it........until i played halo ^.^.
Resistance: Fall of Man runs at 30fps, not 60fps. It's in an article in a magazine I read. The reason for this is that, to fit 40 instead of 32 players and to have more particle effects and destructible environments, they needed to scale it down from 60fps to 30fps. As for the graphics, they're not going to be as good as the Unreal Engine because the Unreal Engine has been worked on for longer than the one used for Resistance. Of course, the PS3 dev kits come with the Unreal Engine, so Resistance could have used it, but didn't. Money and all that. Anyway, games that are exclusive to the PS3 in later years will look better than anything on 360, not to sound like a fanboy, I want, and will have, both systems. Halo is still my favorite FPS next to Unreal. Unreal has better multiplayer but Halo has a great campaign and story, in my opinion. Resistance has a somewhat interesting story, but I'm going to get it for the weapons and gameplay. All in all, it's going to be fun.
Looks like call of duty 3 graphics nothing like gears of War unreal engine Aliens look d i c k y ! might be good but nothing like GOW Gears Of War monsters look sweet this game kind of stupid and the movement doesn't look real at all
Games are priced at $59.99 not the $78-$85 japanese conversion figure floating around on the net. If more people would read they would see that those japanese prices are the same as the 360 games in Japan so the reasonable inference would have been that games would cost the same as the 360 in the U.S. but hell "PS3 games to cost $85" makes a better headline.
anyway the XBL has a great online service, lets see wat the Ps3 online goin to be. im also a fan on both systems so im goin to get both of them
Recent info said between 75-85$, depending the game for some reason.. still, expencive 0o- lucky me ^^
This will be the best, possibly most successful and long-lasting launch title, as I'm sure every person to get a PS3 will pick this up. ahhh I can't wait to play this game!!
As for the game, it lookslike a decent release title, and it's prolly gonna last a while as well due to the online part. But I have to admit- the Halo franchize is faaar more captivating that this..
Loool! People keep saying that the Xbox 360 only allows 16 players, have you ever looked closely? Perfect dark Zero, which was a release title supported up to 32 players, and that was a year ago! My god, stop being so immature and argue without facts.
Humans V.S. Aliens ? Whoa ! This concept is crazy !!! Everyone said the same thing about killzone before it came out and well...lets count sand is better then killzone. Don't forget about the labels put on Pariah and Brute Force either. Any time someone makes a new FPS or shooter it will be labeled as a Halo killer. Sony is banking on that because they know over half of you are going to just go get the game before trying it.
When i first saw this game, i wasnt really interested, but after i fully read into it, im liking it more and more.Gonna be a good title.
LMFAO I've seen games that scored below 7 get higher praise in GS _ _ _ _ sucking preview  Wait to the game is released they'll crap all over it, mark my words this garbage won't even score above 8
yayo! lots of players in not-so-big maps?!?? ITS GUNNA BE CRAAZY! sounds like lots of fun thats really gunna push the ps3...
"Its only $500-who needs a bigger hard drive " To be fair there are some very large differences between the versions. http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/specs.html (the stuff in red) Granted many people may not have a need or want for allt he extras but to compare, when I bought my last PC I thought 80GB of space was plently and now I'm running out of room with 160GB. This system will be around for 5 years or more and as they try to pump more content either via episodic content, add-ons, or movies, music, etc. I think you will find that 20 GB will not be very much room at all. If however you do not plan on downloading those extras (or maybe a just a couple of them) 20 GB should be fine. Myself I am gettign the 60GB version mostly for WI-FI and the extra card readers (psp, camera). And I might fall into the "gotta have it all" category at some point so I may need the room. Price sucks but what can you do. To get back on the subject at hand - I'm looking forward to RFOM. It looks like in the very least a solid FPS.
yea manson66 is right every game is different most games suport up to 16 players but it's all the developers choice. anyway I hate sony but this game looks great. great character models and heavily detailed environments I hope you guys have fun with this game it looks great. I hope all FPS games look like this across the board.
Man, hope one day I won't have to hear what "this" or "that" system does. ANYWAYS..This game has been one of the main reasons I'm pickin up a PS3 and i've yet to hear anything negative. I can't wait till this thing comes home..very kool indeed :)
shady_825 wrote: No one really cares what it was like, content-wise. We all know it's a FPS and plays like one. We want to know about frame-rate and match types. that's been stated a while back, retard Wej_accept_it wrote: Some genuine info on frame rates, weapons, etc would've been nice just now... same goes for this guy
wait, B-boy said that the 360 only supports 16 players online. thats not correct is it? i mean, each game is different right? it can support more than 16 in an fps ....right? The comment sounds like an uninformed fanboy comment though (mind you, i am a sony fanboy myself, just not a stupid one) but i just want to make sure.
PEOPLE QUIT CALLING IT A $600 dollar machine, its only $500-who needs a bigger hard drive 360 only has 20gb as well, so please SHUTUP!!! Its only a $500 console and PS3 has free online so in reality it only cost $50 more the 360-so spending $50 for a machine with better graphics, a blu-ray drive, and the support of sony's huge development studios=over one hundred(100 IS ALOT) exclusive games in development for PS3 buy sony alone, AND THATS JUST SONY'S STUDIOS!!!
The enviroments look beautifully designed in this game. But the weapons? A Sniper Rifle that slows down time? Now come on... But the 40 players online will be a great addition.
