In 2002, Resident Evil needs a lot of work.

On a technical level, Resident Evil for the GameCube is a stunning representation of the console's capabilities at an early stage of its life. However, the gameplay of Resident Evil, though tried and true, is entirely broken. It needs so much work, words can't even describe. Resident Evil for the Playstation is a classic, as well as the few sequels it spawned, like 2, Nemesis, and Code Veronica. But at this stage, the control-scheme is just too bad to let it go unnoticed any longer. The game is well-made, production levels are sky-high, and it achieves what it sets out to do. It's a good game. But the fact that the control scheme in the game makes it nearly unbearable to play is bad enough to make this a game perhaps that most people should steer clear. I can't stress it enough, this series needs so much work. It is to the point where it isn't even fun anymore. Since this is a remake, if you've played the original, I can't honestly recommend this to you in the state its in, unless you want to see the gorgeous graphics. It's worth a rental, barely.
