What a great beginning to the franchise

To tell the truth, I've never played the original version of this game. I have only seen screen shots from the PS version. Obviously when comparing the PS to the GC, there is going to be a difference. In this particular situation, the differences are blatant. The gameplay has been reported to have been enhanced from the original. I can say that the game is enjoyable when playing through. As far as scaring the pants off of you, it will do that. I had already played through the game and still jumped on certain parts. The controls are still pretty crap. Jill & Chris (& Rebecca) still operate like a tank game. The quick turn is definitely a welcome carry-over from the other games. And the story is solid and keeps you intrigued throughout the game. The graphics are seriously enhanced from the original. For instance, the backgrounds and interactive objects blend in together very well. The details in the environments are stunning from the lights flickering on the wall to the blades of grass blowing in the wind. And the character details are amazing. Whenever you see a closeup of the character, you can actually count the hours spent into making this game into some sweet eye candy. The sound is ok. Nothing to rave about, really. It is nice to find that when walking from one environment to another, the sounds of the character's footsteps will change. The background noises & music are also noteworthy. They will give you the feeling that you might be in a constant Emergency Code Plaid. But again, nothing that really stands out on its own. This is a game that should definitely be picked up if you have an extra $20 in your pocket. It has great replay value, too. If you're worried about playing through once and being done with it, think again. You will get a few plays out of it and will be happier in the long run.
