A game that pretty much kicks you in the face with nostalgia.

User Rating: 8 | Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles WII
We all know the old Resident Evil. Everyone knows the old Resident Evil. If you don't know it, you were either never born yet, or are just too stupid to bask in it's glory. Now, this game is nothing but nostalgia. Zombies, Tyrants, old Nemmie trying to face rape Jill with tentacles (somehow that sentence doesn't sound right), and everything else that wants to eat your face.

This game is an on rails shooter, so you can't flee on the first sight of a zombie. Luckily, most of the enemies, save for a few, are slow. Except in this one, zombies can cough up their lunch at you from a distance, covering you in nasty zombie barf that eats at you like acid. Something right there I'd like to point out. You can shoot the barf. How is this possible? No clue. Maybe that means I can shoot bullets in the air and destroy bacteria before it forms and gives me a nasty cold.

Most of the story is, well, the old Resident Evils. You know, when lips never moved, blocky graphics existed, and when you almost became a Jill Sandwich. Yes, the line that started a cult of followers. Anyway, the game follows the games of Resident Evil 0, 1 and 3. While it does skip 2 and Code Veronica, it does play a few new parts with both Chris and Jill destroying an Umbrella base, and a few new story bits with Wesker. This game is very much still like the old games, only on rails. And this is also the only game, where you will see both Hunters and Lickers in the same game, whereas any game that wasn't 2 only had Hunters, and 2 only had the Lickers.

The game is probably enjoyable to those who like the simple form of shooters, or to those who just want to see Nemesis with new graphics. The game itself is quite enjoyable, even if it may be a bit short, depending on how good you are. Still, the game element is quite fun, and is one of the rail shooters that is very addicting, especially to long time old Resident Evil fans, such as myself. That doesn't mean the game is easy though.

Yes, the game likes to throw things at you that may come out as BS. Sometimes the camera turns right as a damn Hunter jumps to nom on your face. Or zombies it'll turn to an ass load of zombies, to which you may not be able to react in time as half the time, they are up in your face. Also, sometimes the Wiimote may not register a movement, and you'll screw up a dodge scene, which could lead to death. Some moments have instant death, so it's something to note.

Most of the games bosses are all in, as well as adding Lisa, who was only a boss in the remake of Resident Evil. Crimson Heads, also exclusive to it's GameCube port, make a return. Every major character in Resident Evil appears in this game, as well as some new characters that may appear, such as some new characters in Wesker's story moments.

Overall, the game is quite good, and perfect for the old Resident Evil fan. Because it's on rails, it's easier for the more casual player, so people who've never played Resident Evil can try it too. A pretty good game with enough nostalgia to make you all giddy.
