Resident Evil: Revelations is not only one of the best 3DS games, it's also one of the best Resident Evil games.

User Rating: 8.5 | Resident Evil: Revelations 3DS
Resident Evil is a franchise I've followed somewhat, what I mean by that is that I've played the "main" games in the series, you know, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Project X, I haven't played the light gun games or the on-rails shooters. I've always liked and been interested in the series, but it was Resident Evil 4 that really hooked me, it was the best Resident Evil and took the series into a new direction, I liked RE5 as well, though not as much as RE4, is there anybody who finds 5 superior to 4 anyway? Resident Evil Revelations is in my opinion better than Resident Evil 5, it is scarier and more atmospheric for starters, but then RE5 wasn't scary at all, but then I didn't find 4 that scary either so to say that Revelations is scarier than 5 isn't saying much at all, and the game is only marginally scary in parts, it got me by surprise twice, such as when a female boss character appeared AGAIN during a time limit sequence, but then it's all within the series history as enemies have a tendency to pop up when it's the least convenient. The game is split in two parts basically, which then come together near the end. The moments on the cruise ship are by far the best, by far, that's not to say I hated running through mountains and offices shooting Wolves and Hunters just spewing bullets and picking up new ammo all over the place, but it's the tense, ammo-saving gameplay on the ship that really reminds me why Resident Evil is so good when it does survival horror instead of a third person shooter with monsters.

There's a bunch of secrets on the ship as well, like weapons you can't collect at first, but then you remember them after collecting some item which enables you to unlock them so you go back and it'll be worth it along with weapon upgrades. You also have this scanner thing, I think it's called the Genesis, and it's in your best interest to use it frequently to locate ammo and health. The game is not that challenging, there are some cheap one-hit kills, one near the end got me a couple of times, when you have to swim through and area and this monster can just eat you up and cause instant death. The swimming isn't always so much fun, it can be very disorienting in the murky water, and it can be annoying when enemies sneak up on you and grab you. There are some very exciting moments here, the moments where there is a time limit are particularly intense. The bosses are pushovers, save for the final one, which killed me about five times before I finally learnt all of his tricks and how to avoid them, for the most part, not gonna lie, it wasn't easy and he nearly got me the time I managed to beat him as well, he takes SO MUCH damage it's unbelievable. But the controls are sharp enough and with just a little practice it's doable. The game looks and sounds spectacular, I mean the music, the dialogue, not so much, the story is not great and the new characters aren't memorable in the slightest, you just don't care about them. But either way, this is one of the best Resident Evil games I've played.
