User Rating: 3.9 | Resident Evil Gaiden GBC
At around 2000 Capcom was planning to port Resident Evil 1 over to Game Boy but the game got cancelled yet Capcom was working on a new Resident Evil game for GBC namely Resident Evil Gaiden the game is rare now but i was lucky to find it in Germany(text in english)but was it all worth to find? The game takes place after Raccoon City Barry Burton(RE1) and Leon S. Kennedy(RE2) both have joined a serect underground organisation. Leon is tracking down a BOW but then the organisation lost contact with Leon while he was on a luxus ship called Starlight Barry is sent to find out what happened to Leon and help him track down the BOW but when Barry arrives he finds out that the people on the ship is infected by the T-Virus!. The game has 2 modes the first one is explore mode where Barry(or Leon)is exploring to get items and open doors it´s like the other RE games so even though it´s on GBC it´s not changed one bit. Then there´s combat mode it´s not takeing place while in exploreing mode when in combat it´s a little like Final Fantasy the character you play as can´t move and the monsters can only move toward you and how do you shhot? well it´s hard to explain but i´ll try. There´s an orange sign moving from left to right and when it enters the white field you hit when your fireing with a gun or use a knife how fast the orange sign is moving is depending on the weapon(for example it´s hard to hit with a Rocket Launcher)it´s good but if your not careful you may be wasting bullet´s. When you killed a zombie you return to exploring mode if your lucky the zombie you killed is still there that means the zombie has a item the items that the zombies contain can be ammo herbs and key items but it´s hard to see which zombie who has a important items so you may kill zombies who has nothing(also later in the game it´s rare to find zombies with items)so sometimes your wasting bullets. What´s stupid in the game is saving you can only save when you have completed a mission(there are around 12 missions)and that´s stupid but luckly you can select to continue from where you where when to either died or turn off the GBC. Also when you got a important you need to go back to the place where you need to use the item but you need the take the long way because the easy and shortst way is blocked by fire and that happens too many times. Also it´s hard to avoid zombies sometimes they are just blocking your way and you need to kill them luckly when in combat you can escape but when you succed in escaping the zomebies attacks you which is not good. So what monsters are there in RE Gaiden? well there´s the zombies and the tyrant but that´s the only monsters there is! that means no hunters and no lickers that´s very few monsters but at least the zombies are tougher the more you get in the game(for example later you enouctor a zombie who uses a crowbar as a weapon). The sound i awful the music is like Capcom is useing the music tools from 1975´s but i like the music in the cut scenes also the zombies sounds like they do on PSone which is good but while the zombies make sounds there a frame rate problem. The story is about 20 hours long it my be longer because it´s very hard and what do you get when you have completed the game? nothing so much for nothing!. The graphics is the best thing with the game it´s a nice game thanks to the graphics. So Resident Evil Gaiden is a bad game but if you find it you better buy it because it´s hard to find these days(if you find it that is).
