Not as good as it predecessors, but still lives up to its name

User Rating: 8 | Resident Evil Code: Veronica X PS2
5 years after the original RE was released Code Veronica X was ported from the Dreamcast to the PS2. Many improvements were made due to the graphic advancements including an expanded storyline, more weapons and enemy varieties, much longer gameplay, extra modes, ability to dual wield, and weapon modifications. The game, no surprise, plays out similar to the first 3, although there are a few noticeable differences, one including the camera angle seems more natural and the screen seems like it follows your more smoothly than the previous titles, which is an improvement. You still are pretty much trapped in a confined area and must collect items and keys to progress and move forward. There seem to be a few fun parts that challenge you such as being sniped by a certain antagonist, having to push a box into a certain enemy to cause him to fall off a plane and such. Of course, this game seems to be a little easier and less challenging since more ammo is fed to you and enemies seem easier to dodge since the areas are more spread out in this game. You also only follow one storyline rather than two, despite the fact that you mainly control two characters in this one playthrough. Puzzles are still pretty fun and simple like the first 3 games. The storyline is pretty creepy and includes some of the best characters including the return of one of REs most popular villains.

The graphics are some of the best for its time and a far advancement from the previous games.

The voice acting is incredible and some of the best of series.

The game tends to get repetitive once you beat it since their are no difficulty settings and there is only really one unlockable mode which is interesting but in no way as fun as the RE2 unlockables/extra modes. Plus since this game feels more linear and simplistic than the previous games,
replay isn't quite as high.

Overall, this game is a good addition and has one of the most epic storylines, as well as some great advancements over the previous games. It just doesn't have many unlockables worthy of replay, and doesn't feel as strategy based as the previous games.
