Still one of the best in the series.

Though by todays standards Code Veronica may not visually impress, in February of 2000 nothing could touch it. Your'e Claire Redfield, reckless motorcycle driving sister of S.T.A.R.S.'s legend Chris Redfield. While searching for her brother in a European Umbrella complex, shes captured, sent to a remote island in the Pacific, and eventually freed, only to relive the familiar horror Resident Evil fans by now all know. It retains the old style gameplay of the previous 3 games but now with fully 3-d backgrounds that actually scroll a bit in some places following Claire much like a movie camera. It was done previously in Dino Crisis but looks much better with the updated graphics. The controls are the same ol' Resident Evil.....clunky. But Claire now has an auto aim and the 360 degree spin feature. The weapons in the game are decent, but could have had much better sound effects. Voice acting is improved over the previous installments, but only marginally. It grades about a C+. The one supporting character Steve Burnside (Leo DiCaprio ripoff) will no doubt get on your nerves. Just listen to the way he say's SORRY in the game. It's always SAW-RY! Ugh. I will say that the opening movie is one of the most impressive I have seen in any game and holds up quite well even today. I still think this has the best story of the entire franchise. No offense to the outstanding Resident Evil 4, but it was a bit hokey compared with Code Veronica. The game also has a good length, at least for a first time through. There is incentive for a second play through. If your'e lucky enough to complete the game in under 4 and a half hours while not saving or using any first aid spray, you'll get the unlimited rocket launcher. I havent done it yet....still trying! There's also survival modes and you'll be able to use our old friend Albert Wesker. I would suggest the Playstation 2 version, Code Veronica X for the fact that is has some awesome added scenes with Wesker including a terrific end battle movie. On any console (gamecube,ps2, dreamcast) this is still a classic and should not be missed. Highly recommended. A
