A real amazing continue on Resident Evil 2... It couldn't be better than this!

User Rating: 9.1 | Resident Evil Code: Veronica X PS2
Can Resident Evil 2 have a better continue than this? My answear to that question is NO. I can't believe myself, because I've own the PS2 since it came over 6 years ago and I've never played this game before! First time was last week! I purchased it last week, when I was in EB Games. I saw it used for a really cheap price. So I gave it a chance, I mean I've over 7 years want to see what happened next after Resident Evil 2... And now I've done that... And I never became disappointed...

I know, I played it a very long time after it came out, but it doesn't feel old for one second! I mean this game is some years old now and I've played more recent games like RE4 before this. And after someone has played RE4 it can sounds in many ears that noone wants to come back and play the older RE games... But that's totally wrong! Code Veronica X feels like a "new" game, it sure has the old classic gamestyle that the 3 first RE games to PS1 has, and hasn't the brand new gamestyle in 3D that RE4 has, but I can tell you: The graphic was much, much better than I thought it would be. -The graphic was my first impression of this game.

I soon discovered how funny and nearly perfect this game was to. Apart from the surprisingly great graphic (it's no strange it has so great graphic, it was the first RE game to the new generation: DC and PS2, it was a huge jump from PS1) this game never feels the same at all, It has a great variation of different enemies, puzzles, maps and more to discover - than any earlier games in the series. It has perfect background music and the voices in the game is perfect.

*One exemple of the variation of the weapons:
You can upgrade your handgun, so it been stronger, and more like an "UZI", you have much of the classic weapons from the past RE games, like shootgun and grenade launcher etc. But here you also find weapons like AK-47, sniper rifle and 357 Magnum (it's a little different type of Magnum than you can find in RE1 and RE2. But here it's a little harder to get it, because you must make a little "puzzle" to take that gun.)

*One example of the variation of the enemies:
I take the zombies - ofcourse it has zombies, but that's not all...
It also has different types of them, I can say "Easy" "Medium" and "Hard", in other words it depends wich type of them you meet, so choose right weapons on the zombies. The different types of them can not only take more or less damage, they are also slower or faster! It's good that isn't just one or two types of them. That was just one thing I mean with the variation of the enemies. But ofcourse it also offer other different types of enemies, some have you seen before, some of them are brand new...

The biggest suprice this game gave me was how big is really is! No doubt about it, this game is the longest RE games how does exist. I believe it's a little longer than RE4 -it took me longer time to finished. 19 hours took me to finished this game (but only so you know: I took my time and checked very room careful, so I never missed anything.) When I believed that I had finished this game, (around 8-9 hours) it came up a black window on the screen: "Do you want to save the first half?" -That was a really nice suprice!

But like I said, this game has a big variation of everything, and this is the point how make the game so funny to play, if the game was still so long that it is, but had no variation at all it would be very boring gameplay. But now when it has the great mix of variation and a really long great story you can't be bored. The game become better and better how longer you come through the game, but is still a masterpiece from the first beginning.

If you havn't played RE2, I can tell you the characters in that game you played as was: Leon S Kennedy or Claire Redfield. Claire in that game searched for her brother Chris Redfield, (one of the left S.T.A.R.S members you also played as in the first RE game) but she never find him. So this game continues where the second game ends, and your mission is to continuing the search for the brother Chris Redfield. Umbrella is ofcourse left in this game -they are behind all this evil mess. And you will now also try to stop them once for all.

Very soon in the start of this game you will find a person, his name is Steve Burnside and it's a young teenager you will meet time to time through the game. (It has always feel good to meet friends in the RE games, because 95% of the time you meet enemies. "So it good to relax time to time".)
One of the evil headperson in this game is Albert Wesker, (If you didn't allready know it, he was once a leader of the S.T.A.R.S, but now he is a traitor.) And it's funny, because you will see him a lot of times in this game.

It's also the hardest RE game so far. Like the fist game, you can't choose wich difficulty you want. But in my oppinion Code Veronica X is a mix of medium and hard. Also one thing how is much better here is that you now must think on the future when you play early in the game on a whole new way. I mean, in the previous games you had always more ammo than you ever needed, but in this game you must think all the time who you waste with wich weapons etc. Ofcourse if you want, you can live like a king a hour and waste every single enemie with the strongest weapons you have, but after that hour you will stand there with only a handgun and a knife...
So every thing you choose to do in this game, can change the future in the game. Also if you take something early in the game, that item isn't left there later in the game... This game has also the hardest puzzles ever in a RE game, and it's a lot of them too. The boxes where you put your items is left in this game, but it's not a lot of them! It's very few... And that thing also make the game a step harder. But all this difficult things in this game, just make the game better and more exciting...

It's just one and only thing, I was a little disappointed with, it could be a lot of more terrifying things that jumps after you when you least expect it,
-like the dogs who jump in through the windows in the first game.
Code Veronica X sure has some things like this, but not specially much,
I mean this game is so huge that Capcom could put in little more of these things, but this was just one thing. Everything else is nearly perfect, and the game also offer more bosses than any previous RE game.

So, if you havn't already played Code Veronica X, it's far from to late to do that! And I'm sure you will find it for a cheap prise like me, so give this game a chance, like I did! You will not get disappointed!
