Resident Evil 6 pushes Kevin VanOrd's buttons in this video review.
I was playing tonight the "agent hunt" mode, disturbing the others campaings as a creature, and wow, it's great. i feel so.... "infected". This game deserves the medal of "solid extras",also "Great Story", "Outstanding Visual Design", "Plays Well With Others", "Brutal", etc.
...but, i forgot!, this is not like RE 1,2 or 3. (irony)
4.5? seriously? I just played this game and the attention to detail and unique feel of the classic resident evil games is spot on. The feel of this game is executed perfectly considering this is exactly what they were going for. The gun sounds are solid, the hit sounds/head splatters are rewarding, and the overall polish of the engine provides a safety net for at least a score of 7 if all else fails. Yeah the interactive "press X at the correlating moment" is very frustrating but come on a 4.5? This is what hurts the gaming industry, i can see alot of work gone into the polishing of this game just to be blindly bashed just because gamespot says its bad? If gamespot gave it a 9.0 im sure everyone of the reviews would be like WOW YEAH I CAN REALLY SEE HOW THIS IS A GREAT GAME!!
@spindie i would give the review of this game a 4.5 and give the actual game a 7.
@spindie this review score may be more correct to the way I felt about it when playing BEFORE the download patch that fixed many of the things that players were complaining about. Including the reviewer that gave it a 4.5. I think if he had the time to do another play-through and review since the patch, he might give it a higher score for sure. I personally would give it a 7.
The review is spot-on; I'd give this abomination a lower rating though. I hate QTEs.

ok, Just played the game. The only thing you fear in this game is an upcoming frustrating platform/action sequence. The game is terrible. Put aside all that Kevin said, there's even more atrocities that he doesn't talk about. And I don't mean the monsters in the game. Think from voice acting, to storyline, lack of common sense, to basic logic, etc...
I remember the time when i used to shit my pants while playing RE-3:Nemesis...Those were the good old days. And this is just crap. Completely agree with the reviewer...This game completely lost it's roots...
getting tied of games like this quick time events and constant cut scenes i have no patience for. think the review was fair and wakeup call for capcom its time to bring something else.
It looks like Dragon's Lair and Space Ace from the 80's has traveled full circle these days and this is the result.. shite, button mashing games for fucking ADD retards.
"a wannabe action film that resents your interference"
What an excellent statement!! Very well put.
I'd say this applies to many of the big titles during the past year.
Worst RE installment to date.... really, really bad game. Controls are horrible to put it in a nice way, heavy scripts cause MAJOR issues and unnecessary deaths. General gameplay is a disgrace, the ONLY positive I have is the cut scenes are very well done and the voice acting is superb. This is NOT a good game and I would NOT recommend it to anyone.... ever....
@BiiteMe The controls are good. best RE controls ever. The game itself is very bad though. i tryed to like it, but I gave up after getting stuck on the boss on the train of the Leon campaign.
One word review: dated.
Next game should be a reboot like Tomb Raider, a true reboot, for their own good.
@focuspuller the TR reboot was bad. all of the magic from prior TR games is gone. No more prehistoric lizards, no mummies, no giant bears, just lame wolves and humans.
Why do all those damn bosses have to mutate a hundred times before dying, it's just so ridiculous in the end, especially at the end of Leon's story.
Just got this game cheap and its not as appalling as the review makes it, just dont go in expecting survival horror. would of given it a 6 myself but can see why it got a 4.5.
Long live RE Remake,RE 2,RE 3 Nemesis,RE Code Veronica,RE Zero!!!!!!!
die RE 4,RE 5, RE 6:(:(:(
@PS2and6th_Gen yessss , This is not resident evil, it's a bad shooter, the game lost the essence, what a shame you missed the grand old resident evil, the camera is terrible, ridiculous mobility, is the worst game of capcom, killing zombies like other bad capcom games, not recommended, I repeat this is not resident evil, Log live 0,1,2,3 veronica
Resident evil trilogy classics are always the best . and forever it will be . maybe a reboot or rebuilt needed for this awesome game......
People have so many expectations of capcom. I agree that there should be more old school style survival horror games. But if capcom wants to make more action filled games with less scary scenes then that's fine with me. It doesn't change the quality of this game. We'll just have to look elsewhere for our survival horror fix and appreciate this game for what it is.
This isn't a very good review. I'd like to start doing reviews of reviews. I would give this one a 4.5. It's like he got so caught up in his huge overexaggerations that he lost sight of giving a fair and honest review. The reviewer hates quicktime events. But a lot of people enjoy this gameplay because it makes the game more like an interactive movie. The biggest problem I see is that it's very different from older resident evil games... Although it is fairly similar to resident evil 5.
@Mudando I highly agree. Kevin VanOrd, Chris Watters, and maybe Tom McShea are all biased. That's why I take a look at IGN, GameInformer, and even Kotaku after I see a review. Also, if you go to 'Metacritic.com', it has any game and all reviews for that game.
I finally played this game because I had a free red box rental. This review nails it. Terrible game. It felt as though I was just there to push buttons in order to fulfill a devs vision of a subpar action movie. When it does let you play, it's a meh shooter.
@neowolfgeo You daft? Look at all that blood! He'd never risk messing up his hairdo. Not even in his 30s.
Nor his jacket, lol. He still had lots of time to prevent it from escalating to that point though.
This games has been so much enterteining. I don't know if it is because my first time playing i played kind chronological switching between campaigns instead of doing full campaigns but the game felt like a wonderfull big story instead of 4 small stories as some say it felt.
This game is easilly the best one in the series for me. The fact that i played switching back and forth between campaings also kept things always fresh as each one of the campaigns feels different from each other and each campaign is interesting on its own, i think porbabilly the mistake the devs made was allowing for players to choose the order of how players wanted to play instead of forcing players to change between characters because this way changing between characters i'm always still interesting to know what was going to happen with the other characters as i am playing others especially when i changed in a really good part (Many players probabilly played each campaign until the end before changing to the other and so the game must have felt that it was a buch of mini campaings instead of this full big campaign)
The game has also a nice lenght to it, in normal difficulty i found that i took at least 1 hour and 50 minutes usually for each chapter and i did a lot of running away, so for others it is probabily longer.
It is true that the game has lots of cut-scenes and time events, BUT is has lots of gameplay time to make up for it , i am a sucker for story driven games and this game managed to kept me interested all the way trough.
I've been a fan of the resident evil franchise since the beggining and this game did NOT disapoint, it is true that the franchise has diverted from it's roots but that is not always a bad thing and this game proved just that to me.
An easy 8.5/10
Also there is some people who complain about the fact that the game is not about real Zombies anymore but they seem to forget or simply don't understand that resident evil is not about Zombies it is about BioTerrorism.
@Dreizel after i completed all the campaings and playing marcenaries and agent hunt, i tell you man, ----i'm agree with you---
at the begginning it's hard to get the controls, but when you understand them, its a great experience.
and when you play the ada's campaing, all starts to make real sense. Not for "10 mins" players.
4.5 ?!!! its not fairly! see at users score that s the real score! that s completely different !
@soshians58 I agree. It's the user's score that truly counts, not the review score of Gamespot. That is just one person's opinion. An opinion that I don't agree with.
This review, and especially the score are wrong (regardless of the fact that it's opinion). They over-exaggerate the amount of cut scenes and quick time events. There are many of them, but there is also plenty of time spent shooting. The instant death segments are rare and usually occur just after a checkpoint so the consequences of ding are not dire. The gameplay itself is solid. Imo, this game is just as good (if not better) as the previous games. Neither 4 or 5 were scary, both had instant death segments, and both were riddled with cut-scenes and quick time events. This title does all those, plus more things better.
Hope you're right. I still see his point, but I really hope you're right that this isn't so far off from the previous 2 titles. Looking at all that up-close camera action though... I wonder. Nasty mess.
Do you still have to save ammo for the best time or do you find ammo everywhere
cuz what i liked about the old re's is that you feel the need to save ammo until you find another pack
@farundermath This one throws ammo at you, and only very rarely did I find myself low on ammo (at least the pistol ammo). Only the more powerful guns ever run low on ammo if you abuse them.
Eww capcom's profits are rising? Why did so many children have to buy this garbage? now capcom will never learn. great
Realy? What parents let children buy a game for mature folks? There is a age rating on the game you know. I woudnt let any child that is not 17 buy this game and play it. If you dont like the game dont buy it. Other wise shut up
