Throw me in the RE5 fanclub.  I really like the feel of this game! Even by today's standards years later, the game holds up graphically and in gameplay.

I think RE5 is totally underrated by many and it really deserves better.  In fact it is probably my favorite RE in the series.  There, I said it. I find myself coming back to it more than the other RE games for some reason. And yes it is still very much an RE game because it has the continued storyline and immersive tension (as the reviewer of Gamespot noted), even with the co-op aspect.  It is not as dark in tone as RE4 and the other previous installments, but it is still very, very haunting nonetheless with the right amount of action and set diversity.  After playing it recently on the PS3 with Move and now from my downloaded Steam version, I find myself wanting to collect everything and upgrade all the weapons.  Naysayers should really give RE5 a second look.  It is a much more polished game than RE6 and an excellent edition to the RE universe.  Thank you Capcom!  It was so good that the producers of the acclaimed Dead Space 3 patterned that particular survival horror game after RE5 -  with more action and open settings and co-op.  Enough said.....

@viewjet Agreed. RE "purists" be damned RE5 is still a great game.

In my opinion one of the best RE games ever made. I started playing it with a negative feeling, seeing it merely as a clone of RE 4 and with nostalgia for the old RE games of the Playstation era. But frankly after playing it, and replaying it, I couldn't find any problem with this game. And it's a lot of fun too. It's not survival horror anymore, but in what it does, it is flawless. 9/10 from me.

It really is a good game, but it's about as scary as Stephen King's IT.

One of the worst sequel's ever made, Resident Evil 5 destroyed everything that made the series great. Resident Evil 5 deserves nothing more than 4/10.

Ok so my thoughts. People say that graphics are amazing and indeed they are. But graphics are nothing if the design, the setting and excecution of this game is just horendous. I would be ashamed to even call this main stream action fest a RE game. This is by far biggest disappointment in RE's long history.

Although for those who never played a RE game before I would believe you might be enjoying this. Also this is not a game suited for single player which Capcom always provided for. So here goes another minus.

Also Sheva and Chris are by far second dullest RE duo ever. Just right after Leon/Ashley (although Leon/Ada always where an awesome team).

Some of the in game villains just plain suck also. The only redeeming quality in this game is CO OP but even that doesn't truly make this into anything but a usuless mainstream action bore fest with no heart or big thoughts behind.....I rest my case here.

RE5 is definitely a good game, but it's not a REAL resident evil game. Though it features some main characters it has none of the atmosphere or fear that previous resident evil's had. Overall a good game, just not survival horror.

Looks like the slowest paced game ever made, haven't played and will not play.

I realize the MOVE works flipped upside down, so you CAN use the MOVE button upside down as the trigger, and the trigger button to pull up the aiming reticule... just stupid that Crapcom can't even utilize the MOVE's trigger button as any moron would presume it should.

You know how people say Res Ev 5 is racist? What else would there be in Africa other than blacks? I mean, seriously! Also, they don't seem to give a crap that white people are killed. But when you have to kill a black, they go crazy. Come on, we're all people here!

almossbb

so killing white zombies is alright, but killin black ones is racist eh? .... common guys there aint no racism here.

@FolkIore
WHY DOES EVERYONE SAY THIS GAME IS RACIST, YOU ARE IN AFRICA THERE IS NOT GONNA BE A LOT OF WHITE PEOPLE...
Actually, there are a lot of white people in Africa, but I fail to see how this game is racist. I really do. A lot of people were claiming Sheva's "Tribal" costume was racist, which I fail to see why seeing as how she's African and all. But hey, you're always going to have people crying and hollering racism. It's part of today's society.

@swavemente
should i get this or splinter cell conviction please help
Don't even waste your time or money with Splinter Cell: Conviction. Just don't. It's terrible. Just absolutely terrible! They've taken the focus from the story and put it into co-op missions that have... well, no purpose other than mindlessly killing. You get the same satisfaction in this game, but with an amazing story thrown in to boot! Co-op is extremely fun when played with a buddy, and accels beyond Splinter Cell: Conviction in every way imaginable.

@Kubillay
RE Gaiden better than this game.This is not even RE. very very bad game.
I think you need to catch up on the lore and story up to Resident Evil 5, because this is definitely worthy of carrying the Resident Evil title. Resident Evil 5 continues to carry the story forward. We're in a new era of the story, so don't expect to see the same type of monsters and tactics as you've seen in previous Resident Evil games. And to be quite honest, I'm glad to see the change in style. The previous Resident Evil games were getting very boring. You seen the same types of monsters, which for the most part just consisted of zombies holding their arms out creeping up on you with a boss here and there. Sure, it was okay for the first and second installments, but after that it just became too overused, boring, and predictable. After the fourth installment, Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, the franchise was in need of a change. With this new generation of Resident Evil the monsters are more varied and dynamic than ever. You have to worry about dodging their exploding arrows, and they come at you with a wide array of different weapons, as well as tons of different types of monsters and bosses. The Executioner is terrifying. One wrong move, and his huge axe can take your head off in a single swing.

I just waited 4 years for this, and although it doesn't scare me, it's a good action adventure.

Great review, I have played through RE5 many times, its a great game in a great series, one of my favourite things about the main entrys in the series is the pacing, its always really great & manages to give the player just the right amount of action and downtime.

This game deserves a 9.5. The only valid complaint he has is that the stop and shoot gameplay isn't for everyone. Co-op works fine and no weapon trading is fine so that random people don't quit out and permanently keep your weapon.

the graphics are impressive and it starts well but it feels so clunky that i found it frustrating. it also has a strange ratio which cuts alot of the screen away in splitscreen, which i'm not a fan of. it certainly seems well made so i'll give it another go but it feels like with some improvements to the controls it could have been even better.

good game but it didnt have that "special feeling of 4". and yeah, sheva is annoying as f. although when you control her she can be better than Chris. I loved the part with the savages and oil field but not the ending part, ruined it like RE4 all offices and closed buildings :( i gave it an 8

I got the game, and it's really good so far but i'm stuck. My own fault for doin it on the hardest difficulty setting. i'm on the underground bit when sheva carries the light, have so little weaponry and when I do get to the end of the tunnel I get ambushed in the huge cavern opening. I loked at the play through guide and still die. Help!!!

I didn't particularly like your dependence on the sidekick since she was stupid as f***. She constantly wasted herbs and sprays on me when I only cut myself a bit. She was like one of those really fussy mothers. In fact, I had to run away from her in a manner of sheer terror - which ironically is more than I felt for the undead in this game - just so she wouldn't heal me. Speaking of stupidity the inventory system gets the nobel prize for stupidity. By this system's logic, over 100 grenade shells is equal in weight to 9 herbs as a result of the fact you can only carry 9 slots. Sure, you can give some of it to your partner but she simply cannot be trusted. Apart from that, the gameplay is engaging, the graphics are great and although the story wasn't too immersive, I found it reasonably interesting.

i love this game so much that i am watching the review for the 5th time even though i own this game for more than a year. i guess it's all bout the coop that keeps me going and still wanting to play this game. i got a freakin 600 hours of gameplay until now (which of course also includes a lot of mercenaries and mercenaries reunion)!! and i'm not even bored of it yet. of course after a while i need to have a new game that i'll play heavily for a month or two, but i'm always coming back to this.
