Excellent graphics, improved story, and great weapons create an instant classic Residen Evil game.

The hype surrounding this game was pretty incredible but I think it has lived up to everything that was asked of it. It sticks to the Resi story pretty well as it brought back some of the series' favourites, but also introduced some new elements like the real time inventory and a full time partner. Once you get used to managing the inventory it works much better than previous games as you don't have to worry about the size of each weapon. At the start of the game Sheva is more of a liability than a help but once you start to amass weapons and ammo, she can be a great help. I gave her the machine gun, the cattle prod, and a melee vest and I'm just letting her do her own thing for the most part. Once she gets hold of the bow, she's an invaluable asset.

I'm not a fan of boss fights at all but some of the ones in this game were pretty exciting. I was a bit disappointed by the final fight or two though. I've always hated ending a game with a boss battle because they are generally rubbish and I think it was this time as well.

I got infinity ammo for pretty much every weapon I could've wanted it for which made veteran difficulty a walk in the park really. To get the infinity ammo for the rocket launcher you have to complete the game in less than 5 hours and on veteran I completed it in just fewer than 4 so I was able to get that. I tell you it makes the game a hell of a lot easier! If you aren't worried about your accuracy percentage then you can just fire a rocket into a room and it'll clear it out pretty quickly. It also makes light work of the boss battles as even on professional I never came across a boss that took more than two rockets to bring down.

The two exclusive weapons couldn't be much more different. Whereas Sheva is lethal with the longbow (which is an awesome weapon and a one hit kill for most enemies), Chris' gatling gun is very disappointing. It's so inaccurate meaning it messes up the end of stage overall score and it is so big that you can't even see Chris because of the massive backpack that comes with it.

Overall, once Sheva is better equipped and I don't have to worry about her ammo she is a really handy partner to have. Plus the graphics are much improved and the weapons are for the most part better. You just can't beat how cool Chris looks when he's firing the Hydra shotgun! It's definitely a progressive game that improves once you get better weapons and despite it sticks quite close to the familiar Resi 4 format; it's still one of the best games in the series.
