I've got some experience with the Resident evil series. My experience stops at the previous generation though. I played One through Code Veronica and then I lost touch with the series................until 5. I knew it was probably a good game and I had seen the reviews so I didn't have any problems picking up 5 when I saw it for a reasonable price. Things have changed a lot since my Code Veronica days on Dreamcast. RE5 feels more action oriented and maybe a little too polished for its own good. The action is pretty straight forward and deliberate. Its not really a fast paced run and gun. Don't take that as a negative though because the shooting mechanics work perfectly fine and it gives you the feeling that every single shot has to count. This game clearly has roots to its past, but it has also taken leaps forward. The difficulty is about right. The controls feel solid and responsive and are set up well. The enemies are pretty varied, will put up a good fight, and will come in droves. The story is the typical weave; save your partner, figure out what the nefarious corporation is up to, and deal with betrayals. The visuals are outstanding. The character models look good, the voices match up to the mouths(which is always nice), and their movement is fluid and realistic. The enviroments are nicely varied and full of wonderful detail. The story is of reasonable length and there are plenty of extras. Unfortunately, too much of the suspense and creepiness factor has been lost. RE5 feels too vibrant, too bright, it doesn't have enough of that bleak dark closed in feeling about it. Aside from the section of the game in which you travel through an old mine the game never feels very suspenseful. They attempt to create suspense by overwhelming you with enemies. And true this method is a little nerve wracking, but not good old fashioned horror suspense. That's the only complaint I had with this game. It ran good with nary a bug.

Bottom Line: Not really a ground breaking or incredibly memorable game. However it does do almost everything well and should entertain most players nicely. A worthy entrant to the series.
