Nope ,the movies are very loosely based on the game
You don't need knowledge of one ot the other to enjoy them

Ah ok. Reason I ask is cause I recalled in the games there a Jill and Star and well pretty much a few others people from the movies that's in the game. And I know the game came first then the movies and with in the movies having the names of the characters in the game I though they were linked together or something. So I just watch all the movies and I understand the story to a point but after the last two latest movie Im abit confused so I was thinking maybe I would have to play the games to get a deeper understand of the story or something.

Yeah, as kriztofer said, the movies aren't more than very loosely based on the games. Characters and enemies can be recognized, but the storylines are completely separated from each other.

I've only seen the first three movies. There are a lot of superficial connections, but nothing solid.
The first movie did a pretty good job of capturing the T-Virus outbreak story from another perspective. But Alice does not exist in the games at all (in fact, Paul W.S. Anderson gave her the name Alice because he basically sketched out his story and noticed a similarity to Alice in Wonderland, but as a zombie flick). Pyrokinesis like Alice has has not appeared in RE games.
Several things from the movies have later shown up in games, like the laser corridor in the first movie, and the Red Queen and White Queen computers.
About all you need to know from the games for the movies is:
Umbrella created nasty viruses while trying to develop bioweapons. Some of those got out and created zombies and similar monsters. A small group of people with police training survived the initial outbreak, which was isolated to a city that was blown off the map to contain the viruses. Those survivors have since made it their lives' goals to track down and kill all those responsible and stop any similar outbreaks in the future. Wesker is evil.

This is the general consensus. The more recent games do get a lot of heat though; the older games in the series are more respected. I recommend starting with RE4, as it's kinda the bridge between the older and newer games.

I'd say start with REmake, personally.

I recommend not listening to this guy and starting the series where the series started.

I'd say REmake is the best place to start. The reason you should start with REmake and not the original RE1 is that REmake has some story changes and additions that connect to the sequels better. REmake is the canon version of the story; the original game is not.
