The combat system has a creative combat system where you can chose how the combos are built up and what power ups you want. There are three different type of combos: damage, heal and chaining combos. You can make them as long or short you want within of the limits of the length of the combos you are given or unlock. The combat system has power ups that you unlock during the story that help you take down the different types of enemies and let's you be creative with them. The enemies also have enough variety to give you challenge and mix the combat up between the different stages and battles. It is unfortunate that the superb combat is limited to only dodging or attacking. You can't block or make some sort of variety during the combat itself, therefore the only challenge you really have is connecting your combos and dodging the enemies. During some battles you also to wait for your combo meter to fill out to take down certain enemies. That defeats the whole purpose of the combat being fun and being a chore in some instances. But when you manage to pull off big combos and when the combat flows it is a really fun to play. The platforming has not real purpose in this game except from getting from one location to the other. There are no variations in the platforming except for some timing between certain platforms or areas. The mechanism of changing and altering memories is a nice change of pace and can be really fun to explore and find out the different results. This function is unfortunately underused and isn't a big part of the game, even though it is a really innovative mechanism.

Nilin is a strong character who tries to figure out what happend to her and how she got to where she is. During most of the story you encounter the rich society that live in ignorance and bliss and the underbelly with the desperation and darkness below. You have humans becoming something else because of the memory system that everyone has. Nilin has the special ability to alter memories. She soon finds out with the help of Edge that the benefits of the memory alterations aren't that good. The story is very linear however. There is little to no exploration in this game. You can not backtrack if you missed a collectable unless you want to play the game over again unfortunately. The game tells you where to go at all times and doesn't really try to explore much of the story except for the main path of the game.

The voice acting is solid, especially from Edge and Nilin. The chemistry between those in the story work really well in the story and they manage to portray the characters really well. The overall sound design is also well made, but it doesn't really stand out either. The music is good, but you won't remember the soundtrack after.

The design of the game has a distinct look to it and it looks nice on the eyes. The gameplay does not suffer under any framerate issues during the game and runs smoothly. When the game takes it's time from rushing through corridors, it tends to look really beautiful. From the slums and sewers to upper Paris, it does stand it in my mind after playing it.

There isn't much value to the game except for collecting what the game has or perhaps completing it on a more challenging difficulty. The game is just too linear to play more than one time unless you are a trophy hunter that missed collectibles or didn't complete it on the hardest difficulty.

Overall: It's an experimental game that tries to do something new. It has a great story and solid gameplay, but does also have mechanism and parts of the game that aren't as good. It has solid voice acting and great grapghics.
