Feels like in 100 meter race, the game fell down just a couple meters to the finish line.

I've played the previous games of Red Faction. Back when the first one came out, I loved the aspect that you could demolish stuff around you, which was not present in other games. However now I feel they need something more.

I love destroying things, with various weapons, so more or less I enjoyed the game. Nonetheless I spotted some weaknesses.

First was the story. It is very very weak. After first mission of collecting some junk you get a long video of what happened in between. In certain games like FF series, I love these videos, but here I felt like being left out of the action. I would have loved to participate in many cutscenes, rather then watch them. Furthermore the story itself is rather weak and boring.

Second was the realism part. A guy with a sledgehammer knocking down concrete buildings was a bit too much. This eliminated other weapons, as in most cases I could complete everything with my hammer.

Third was the open map. It is an attempt to make everything to seem non linear, but after a while it got boring like in Just Cause. It starts to repeat itself.

Despite the drawbacks I enjoyed the game, because it is simple and fun - sometimes its all you need.
