Armageddon Brings Red Faction Back To Us With A Bang, But Differs From RF: Guerilla and Does It Well

User Rating: 8 | Red Faction: Armageddon X360
Red Faction: Armageddon is the final game in the series, and differs from the last title in the series Guerilla. Its not open world. but Armageddon keeps the destructable world physics, and allows you to destroy buildings and structures. Armageddon is set fifty years after Guerilla closed, and you are Darius Mason. Ascended from the Masons, who seem to be involved in every conflict on Mars. However now the planet is uninhabitable, unlike how it was in Guerilla and the people of the planet are forced underground.

The main threat you play against is the Cultists, led by a former EDF soldier from the days back in Guerilla. However soon the Cultists release a dormant alien race from beneath the planet, creatures that have lain dormant until now. The Red Faction try to evacuate the underground, where the creatures are spawning.
Weapons at your hand are quite expansive, even nano weapons really come in handy in some tough spots.

However the story really is deep, the still hot conflict between remnants of the EDF within the Cultists and the Red Faction. But the creatures beneath the surface are far worse, and they soon find this to be true. Gameplay is simple, but still engaging and addictive. Collecting parts from destroying enemies, structures to upgrade weapons and equipment and skills.

It follows a well practised system, a simple point and shoot title the story is really strong and the sci-fi element is done well.

The Good:

- The parts system makes a return, as currency to upgrade everything you use and to do this you can destroy almost anything to get them.
- Weapons and equipment is varied, all kinds of weapons to use and even when you believe you have them all, more show up.
- There are many enemies to fight, from pods that spawn the creatures to towering goliaths.
- Over 10 hours at least of good strong gameplay.
- Infestation mode online, similar to waves of enemies attacking you is really fun.
- An epic sci-fi game, with the feel of invasion and survival.

The Bad:

- The sandbox open world is gone and replaced by just point and shoot.
- Some of the creatures you fight can be really hard to beat, and can be frustrated to locate them.

Red Faction: Armageddon even without the sand box world, is still a fun and enjoyable romp as you run and gun through the underground caverns. Well worth the current price of £30.
