Armageddon takes a big leap away from Guerrilla and some what succeds.

User Rating: 7.5 | Red Faction: Armageddon X360
Story: The story takes place 50 years after Guerrilla. Players assume the role of Darius Mason the grandson of Alec Mason from Guerrilla. Darius and the rest of the Red Faction are trying to stop a mad cultist named Adam Hale who is trying to destroy the terraformer that keeps Mars' surface stable. Hale soon destroys the terraformer and most residents of Mars are forced to live underground; and to make matters worse;Hale has just unleashed an alien horde on the planet and puts the entire planet in trouble. So it is up to Darius to stop Hale and clear is name, because he was some what responsible for the outbreak. The story is better than Guerrilla's because it has a number of improvements such as: more cut scenes, better supporting cast of characters and over all a better premise. But that is not saying much because Guerrilla's story was pretty weak. The story is still nothing special, the characters are not developed enough and there are some rather predictable and cliche moments. However the story does its job and is better, but it is not amazing

Graphics: The Graphics are like the last games' the raw power isn't bad,the character models look pretty good, the designs for the aliens and such are pretty cool and the sound from the voice acting and guns are all great. But we all know where Red Faction shines in; the effects. The effects from the explosions and fire look good, but the main star is how amazing the destruction looks,it looks even better than the last game and that already look fantastic. The only draw back is that the environments are mostly colorless caves and get rather boring after a while. But over all the graphics are probably the best part of the game.

Gameplay: This is where the game takes a different approach where as the last game had a sandbox style this goes for a much more linear approach. First let me start with the good; The guns aim and shoot better and some of the guns are a blast to use like the particle cannon and the magnet gun. There is a decent variety of enemies, the mechs and vehicles are VERY fun and over all destroying stuff is just plain fun. Now what isn't so good, well it is very linear and you have no real freedom to explore and cause a riot. The missions feel repetitive at times. Toward the end of the game there is a huge spike in difficulty and there aren't as many destructible environments and destruction is Red Faction's main selling point. Don't get me wrong the game is a blast to play at times but it feels a little lacking at times.

Multiplayer: Now this was a huge let down here, where Guerrilla had a handful of competitive multiplayer modes,Armageddon only has a horde type cooperative mode and a mode called "Ruin Mode" which is the same thing as "Wrecking Crew" from the previous game. The horde mode puts you and up to four other people against waves of enemies and you either need to survive or defend a building. This can be fun for a little while but gets boring rather quick. Ruin mode puts you on a map and you need to destroy as much as you can in a amount of time to get a high score which will be put on an online leader board. The multiplayer can be fun for a little while but it needs some competive modes.

The verdict/Final score

Story: 7.5 It is better than the previous game in terms of just about everything but that is not saying much

Graphics: 9 The effects look fantastic and everything else is fine but at the expense at having some rather colorless levels.

Gameplay: 7.5 For every step forward I feel like they took two steps back in terms of gameplay, however the game is still very fun to play.

Multiplayer: 7 A big let down, while not horrible, needs more modes.

Enjoyment: 7.5 Don't get me wrong the game is still fun but just not as good as the previous game.

Final score:7.7 (7.5)
