Before I start the review of this game, let us go back 2 years. Red Faction Guerrilla was released and had the top-notch destruction engine. But that`s it. It had a good destruction engine but an uninteresting story. We got a sandbox game in which we were able to go anywhere and destroy anything but at the end (at least in my case), it became boring.
Now, in this sequel, Volition modified the engine for extra destruction, added DX 10 and 11 support BUT took away the sandbox part of the game. Now hold on before you start panicking! The game is actually good! You feel much more connected to the main character than in RFG (Red Faction Guerrilla), the graphics are better and the story is, well, kinda the same. In RFG you fight to liberate Mars and in RFA (Red Faction Armageddon) you fight to liberate Mars... well, actually save... from aliens... again, almost like liberating. There are also funny conversations with the main character and his A.I. called S.A.M.
Okay, so the story isn`t anything special but the gameplay is pretty good. It takes time to get use to the "over-the-shoulder" camera if you don`t play these types of games much. Shooting and killing feels satisfying, especially wrecking havoc on enemies and buildings with explosions! You can also rebuild stuff you destroyed but it costs nano-points which you use to upgrade weapons and all that other goodies.
The game never gets boring. Just when you get tired of doing exact same things you get a mech to squash enemies or destroy obstacles.
Levels or maps that you go through feel open even though they constrain you to a single place. That`s a big kudos for them.

All in all I was surprised in a good way and even though I`m still far away from the end of the game, the game gets 9.0 and an official seal of bad-ass-ery.
