I've never felt so immersed in a world before. RDR has caught me and it won't let go anytime soon.

I've never been a big fan of the gta franchise. I couldn't understand what the hype was all about. I played through the first one, on the psone, I played through vice city, I played san andreas. The constant driving, the uninteresting shootouts, the trial and error basis, repeating missions incessantly, and then giving up and moving to the next one, only to find out you have to return to that one later. And then there was gta IV. The most expensive game of all time. I thought i'd love it. Played for 10 hours or so and it stopped being that interesting long before. Don't know why, but I just couldn't see the reason why everybody loves the series. Go bowling with your cousin? nah, not for me. Taking the girl out, then stooping her? done that, only I could see her naked, not hear the sreaming from outside. Driving through the city and being stuck in traffic? It happens everyday to me, it ain't interesting at all. So why, why does everybody love gta?
Now I know why.
Read dead redemption is awesome! Out with the car, in with the horses. Now we're talking! I can just ride along the roads for hours, skinning animals and finding citizens in distress without ever feeling bored. I spent 3 hours playing poker just to clean a guy out. I broke quite a few horses, just trying to find the one for me (my favorite one was crushed by the train). I've been on races, shootouts, I failed to keep fellows from hanging a guy, and more. I grew quite attached to ms. macfarlane. It is everything that gta ever was, only now I can connect to it. And if you are out there and share the same puzzling face when somebody talks wonders about gta, give RDR a try. So maybe you don't want to be a thug in new york or miami or los angeles or whatever, you wanna be an honorable man in a place you never heard of, you can be that in RDR. But if you wanna be a thug, you can still be a thug in RDR, although I felt, specially because of the Redemption in the title, that it leans towards being honorable. I find that great, but if your business is beating up whores on the street, well, you can still do that. Only they aren't on the street. And you live in a small room just beside them. Kinda puts things in perspective: you think they are trash, well, take a look at yourself in the mirror. Take a look at the guy trying to kill one of them with a knife, that you can choose to stop or let go. That fellow is you in gta, right? Well you can still be that guy, but it feels right to be that guy in this enviroment. And it feels even better to stop being that guy and start helping to built america.
To make a long story short, the game is awesome, looks beautiful, plays interestingly, though not without its hiccups, and sucks you in. Of couse I cursed it here and there, in particular because of the cover system, which tends to be helpful but all too often puts you in a worse situation than you were before. However, i am converted: gta/ RDR forever!
