Undead Nightmare boasts a huge world and large scale zombie fights, but some bugs and technical problems mar the title.

User Rating: 9 | Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare PS3
STORY: You are John Marston, the former outlaw from the main game. The West has been ravaged by a serious zombie plague, including your own family. John travels everywhere and meets familiar faces in hopes of finding a cure to the horrific outbreak.

GRAPHICS: Best I've seen in any game in my entire life (in my collection, that is). Textures are very high res, character models look fantastic and animations are very nice. The environments are very expansive and gorgeous. Even the horses look fantastic. As you ride, you can see the horses's muscles move as it speeds. Amazing.

GAMEPLAY: Slightly similar to the first game. The beautiful, atmospheric towns are still here, as well as random encounters. While it may not have as much interactivity or features as the main game, it still offers tons to do. Quests are numerous and diverse. Sometimes you will embark on a quest and be distracted by something totally different. This is natural. Random events are everywhere and they are very fun to interfere with. The world is huge. I don't know the exact size, but it's huge. I've put in about 6 to 8 hours in the game and I'm not done the main story. I would estimate around 10 hours and I'll be done, remember that this is a DLC. However, some problems take away from the near-perfect open world gameplay. One thing, you can't swim. Your feet can only touch a little bit of water. By knee level and up, you drown. Second, you can only save at safehouses found at cleansed towns (which gets annoying), which leads me to the zombie gameplay. Killing zombies takes an average of 8 to 12 revolver shots, unless you shoot them in the head. This is what I do. Without headshots, you will find yourself out of ammo and near death. Another thing is, I was riding in Blackwater once with my horse, and a very strange glitch happened. I was frozen in one spot, and the camera panned out at a great distance. Then it went further in, then back out again. This glitch was very odd and I bet it is rare, but it still happened. Also, the game crashed on me once. This has happened with other players, and usually does not happen more than 2 times in a 20 hour gameplay session. All of the flaws I've pointed out are fairly minor, because the overall gameplay is so good I don't bother with them anymore.

AUDIO/SOUNDTRACK: Very classic Western tunes mixed with dark, gloomy zombified twists. Voiceacting is great and everything sounds fantastic. Ambience is rich and realistic.

ONLINE: There is online, but unfortunately, if you have a NAT-3 internet connection, you can't play with others. This bites, as this is the connection I have. But playing online by yourself in free roam is very fun. You can play the standard deathmatch and capture the flag or do horse races and undead overruns. Note that the free roam is NOT undead, it is regular Red Dead Redemption unzombified free roam.

VALUE: Must-Have

OVERALL

Pros: Gorgeous and expansive world, great atmosphere, fantastic zombie fights, cool weapons, lots random events and side quests, amazing online free roam
Cons: Some noticeable bugs, you can't swim, very rare crashing
