Hack & slash that has no character or personality. Terribly bland ending. Not a horrible game, just uninspired.

First off I can not recommend this game. I bought this game because I have a fond memory of loving these type of games from playing Diablo on Ps1, Boulders Gate and Champions Of Norath on Ps2.rnrnI keep hoping for the same kind of enjoyment I had with those games...this game isn't it. Do yourself a favor and buy Torchlight instead(if you already haven't)rnrnWhat makes this game so uninteresting is that first the game lacks character. There are no real interesting personalities you meet along the way to make the game more interesting, add a little personality or flesh out this world. Basically you start a level hack and slash your way through it until you get to the end and then do the next level. Rince and repeat.rnrnAnother thing is that there is nothing to strive for. Merchants rarely have any merchandise for sale other than potions. There are a few merchants on some levels that do sell some equipment but these merchants are rare. What makes this more annoying is that to shop at these merchants you have to play that entire level over again...ugh. rnI just don't understand why they didn't just have a main town you could back to shop in or if not that have more merchants scattered around who sell things other than health and mana potions. So basically I have a ton of money and nothing interesting to spend it on.rnWhich raises another point. You can replay any level in the game with your current experience. I don't understand the point of this because the levels are pretty linear so you'll rarely miss anything. Also the game has a weird experience system that when you start a level you'll gain experience really quickly from killing monsters, after you go up a level the experience drops dramatically so you won't get another experience level playing on that level anymore. So going back through a level will get you no real experience. So replaying a level just so I can shop at a merchant who has junk for sale is just rediculous.rnThe developers could have learned something from Boulders gate and Champions of Norath. Make the game progressive so that when you have a new level have new merchants. It's not a difficult concept.rnrnAnother thing I noticed about the game is that it doesn't even create it's own monsters. Every monster in the game has been ripped from something else. There is no original monsters unique to this game....that's just lazy.rnrnAnyway the game does have a pretty good length, and the locations/environments look good. It does a good job of keeping the levels pretty short and keeping a variety of locations. And combat is pretty simple. I didn't have the issue of running around waiting for stuff to recharge like the reviewer. The monsters behave prettys standardly for hack and slash. Great enemy AI had never been the objective of any hack and slash game. If only this game had added some NPC characters to add narative and flavor to this game, and had done it's merchants differently this would have been a better game.rnrnSo if you're a sucker like me and longs for the days of good hack and slash and buys these kind of games hoping ot find a gem or just to get a hack and slash fix then buy it, because there really isn't a lot of these type of games around. It's not a horrible game just nothing great and uninspired. You won't hate it but you won't rush to play through it again or get excited to finish it. Srill it'a only 1200msp (which is about $19) look for it someday when it's on sale on Xbox live.
