An Innovative game that gives great depth to the FPS genre.

For starters, the main addition to HL2 is the incredibly realistic physics engine. Everything moves the way they should and objects can be manipulated with the environment; e.g. you can pick up crates and place them on one another in order to reach a certain area. This becomes more innovative later on, when a gravity gun is thrown into the mix. Allowing for you to manipulate larger objects, even to be used as weapons, this becomes very satisfying.
The graphics, while not quite on par with the PC version, still deliver highly detailed looks to the environments and characters, which by the Xbox’s standards today, are fantastic. Audio is also top notch, with some quality voice acting and atmospheric music & sound effects; it gives another dimension to HL2’s gameplay.
Gameplay is totally immersive, having you enthralled from the moment you start. Every part seems to flow beautifully with the rest of the game, for instance; about a quarter of the way through, you must commandeer a vehicle to navigate your way through miles of river, in order to reach your objective. This change of pace (from exploring on-foot to driving) is great fun and feels welcome.
Of course there are a few things missing from the Xbox version that were in the PC version, most notably the online multiplayer. A lack of extras makes HL2 somewhat unfulfilling after you have completed the game, you will only want to play this once.
Overall, HL2 is an incredibly innovative game that delivers a great story, fantastic visuals, and atmospheric sound, which is great fun to play.
