It's not that it's terrible by any means.

User Rating: 5 | Rayman PS
Rayman, a game that has since become critically aclaimed for its fun gameplay came from very humble beginings.

As Rayman, it is your job to find your kidnapped pals. Finding them means going through 70 or so levels, some more than once.

Upon starting the game, all you can do is move Rayman and jump. You are completely defenceless. As you go through the game, you gain the ability to shoot your fist, hang on to ledges and do things on specific levels, like plant seeds.

Understandably, you will encounter enemies. Since the only way to kil them is to punch them, you need to get very colse to them, meaning that they can easily attack you first. There are some that are almost impossible to kill aswell, as the either need to be attacked from behind of when they are in a certain position. The dfficulty in kiling your enemies really can make the game harder than it should be.

But the difficulty is balanced by the variety in the levels. They are all themed very differently, and are all played quite diffreently. While they are all 2D side scrolling levels, some have you avoiding rising water as you try to make it to the top, or riding on an animal friend's back.

As a first generation Playstation game, saving can either be don via a memory card, or with passwords.

Rayman's graphics are very pleasing on the eyes. Every world is very colourful, and full of bigh beautiful trees, good looking water and well coloured skies. There doesn't seem to be a big enemy selection, however, and it seems like alot of the characters are sprites.

The sound is good, albeit basic. Thre are some basic, but good sounds for things like punching your finst and jumping. The music isn't too bad either.

When compared to other side scrolling games available at the time, Rayman pales in comaprison to alot of what was done on the SNES. But ine the selection is limited on the Playstation, this is about as good as it will get.
