One of the first mini game collections for the Wii

User Rating: 6.5 | Rayman Raving Rabbids WII
Released at the launch of the Wii, Ubisoft was amongst the first to produce a mini game collection and thus set the standard for the countless collections that followed. Rayman Raving Rabbids introduces a basic story of Rayman having a picnic with some globox chums, when the Rabbids pop up from the ground, and kidnap all of them. Rayman is then put into an Colosseum which acts as a hub for the mini games. The games are grouped together in 4 mini games plus a boss level and after completing; you are returned to your jail and the process repeats with a new set of games. To be honest, the hub style is very unnecessary, and just wastes a few seconds running over to the next room. In your jail cell, there's not much to do, but you can change Rayman's costume and mix and match between the sets to pull off funny combinations such as a granny look but wear Ronaldinho's Brazil football shirt. There's a lot of variety to the mini-games, and the games can last between 30 seconds to 3 minutes with some requiring small actions whilst others require more strenuous movements. The Rabbids are a focal point of the game, and are very weird, but loveable characters. Rabbits are usually cute, but Rabbids are dumb and ugly looking that are obsessed with plungers and carrot juice. Graphically, Raving Rabbids looks like a Gamecube port; it's basic looking, the colours look very washed out, and there's no wide-screen support which ruins the Rabbids' charm. Once completing the main story, you can then play the games individually to set high scores and unlock extra content. In this mode, the difficulty is raised substantially, and even a good performance usually gives half the achievable points which will be frustrating to a lot of people. There's enough to do here, and there's enough variety and whackiness in the games themselves to be enjoyable but it does seem very dated in its presentation which does detract a lot from the game.
